Join our team of Manitoba's best as we continue to build a company that supports innovation, commitment and customer service. **We are seeking a Technical Assistant to join our Transmission Overhead & Civil Engineering Department. **Under the direction of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, the incumbent will prepare designs for underground structures, oil containment, drafting staff on engineering and project administration processes, and provide Civil design representation on design scoping for individual projects and programs. **_ Responsibilities:_** - Prepare and edit AutoCAD and Civil 3D drawings following Manitoba Hydro's drawing management system. Prepare drawings from data and sketches provided by Professional Engineers. - Perform analyses and calculations and assist with designs for new underground structures and modifications to existing structures in the Asset Planning & Delivery business unit. - Represent the G&G section and civil design representation for design scoping of individual projects and ongoing transmission and distribution system programs. - Assist with Site Development design, including site drainage, oil containment and access/platform design of new and existing stations. - Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to assist the AMD with civil and linear assets to review alternatives for providing/modifying/rehabilitating/repairing facilities by utilizing investigations, analyses, and cost estimates and prepare technical reports summarizing results. - Complete field inspections of existing civil works (dams, dykes, site improvement works, oil containment, etc.), shorelines, and other energy infrastructure. Make occasional field trips to assemble design data and to ensure conformity of construction with design. - Act as a SME and support the Civil Assets Program (CAP) pilot for "site" assets on behalf of the G&G section, including methodology development, inspections and post-processing results. - Assist Senior Geotechnical Engineers and technical staff to ensure that engineered designs and drawings are completed on schedule and in adherence to applicable codes. - Assist with the preparation of design specifications, manuals and reports for various projects including but not limited to building specifications, external engineering contract agreements, flood prevention reports and departmental design process manuals. - Provide technical recommendations to Purchasing staff in the review of construction products. - Communicate with various internal and external bodies and agencies including Manitoba Hydro Customer Service, Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation, City Public Works and Urban Forestry, and municipal governments for drainage, environmental consultation, access permits, sewer connections, and miscellaneous issues related to Transmission Facilities. - Research, propose and implement new products, construction techniques and/or design methods to optimize designs and minimize costs. - MANITOBA HYDRO IS COMMITTED TO DIVERSITY AND EMPLOYMENT EQUITY Reference Code: CO56624510-01 **_ Qualifications:_** - A two-year diploma in Structural Technology from a college of recognized standing and a minimum of four years of directly related experience. OR - Registered as a Technologist with the Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba (CTTAM), plus four years of directly related experience. - Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the field of municipal design and terrain analysis. - Demonstrated knowledge and experience to complete designs of site development and foundations. - Experience necessary to effectively lead and coordinate design and detailing in the preparation of complex design projects. - Experience necessary to effectively communicate with internal /external design groups. - Demonstrated knowledge of the operation of civil Transmission and Distribution facilities, to be able to effectively represent - the interests of all stakeholders internal and external of the Corporation.- Demonstrate working knowledge of AutoCAD; Civil 3D and AutoTURN design software working knowledge would be a - desired asset.- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence. - Required to travel by all modes of transportation i.e. air, land and water. **_ Salary
