Tutor for Indigenous Learners

**Objectives**:
To provide one-on-one tutoring sessions to Indigenous children and youth in Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary School education.

**Responsibilities**:
The Tutor for Indigenous Learners will work in collaboration with Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre staff to provide educational support, homework help, and skill development to Indigenous children and youth. The Tutor for Indigenous Learners will demonstrate dignity and respect in their professional conduct and maintain professional standards of confidentiality. In addition, they will practice cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed wholistic approach.

**Qualifications**:

- 1 year experience in a teaching or tutoring role working directly with children and/or youth
- Secondary School diploma required, some post-secondary school experience is an asset
- Ability to work within NFC’s established policies and procedures, and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team with mínimal supervision
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in developing and implementing individualized learning plans
- Assessment and progress tracking skills
- Ability to motivate and encourage students
- Possess current First Aid/CPR certification or be willing to be certified
- A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS)will be a condition of the employment offer.

**Compensation**: $25 per hour

**Working Hours**: Estimated 6-8 hours per week, in the evenings
