The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community-based organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous people in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area.

The objective of the Alternative Secondary School Program Coordinator is to ensure the effective delivery of the Alternative Secondary School program through a trauma-informed, culture-based education model that supports Indigenous student success and well-being, fosters positive self-identification, promotes strong Indigenous leadership, and provides learners with the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values needed to fully participate in their communities and society.

The main responsibility of the position is to ensure all aspects of the Alternative Secondary School program are designed, planned, coordinated, delivered and evaluated effectively, efficiently and in accordance with established performance standards. The Alternative Secondary School Program Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining dedicated learning spaces for Indigenous learners, implement trauma-informed education policies and procedures, incorporate Indigenous knowledge into curriculum and activities, support Indigenous students with coursework and education plan, coordinate student-centered action planning for education, well-being, and post-secondary goal setting. Ensure access to nutrition and traditional-based food and water practices to support learning as well provide opportunities for land
- and water-based experiential learning.

**Qualifications**
- Education in the field of Social Service Worker, Child-Youth Worker or related program;
- Minimum of 2 years work experience in the field of social services or related field;
- **OR combination of education and experience deemed acceptable by the Hiring Committee.**_
- Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with an understanding of the impacts of trauma.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with external agencies and education stakeholders
- Ability to work within the established policies and procedures of the NFC organization.
- Must have the ability to work independently and with a team, with mínimal supervision.
- Good organizational and administrative skills.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Indigenous heritage a preference; (ref: Aboriginal Employment Preference Policy).
- A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer; and
- Must be fully vaccinated (COVID-19)

**Salary**: $48,000.00 per year
