**JOB SUMMARY**

Reporting to the Executive Director, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, policies and procedures and strategic directions of Yaletown House, the Director Resident Services is responsible for the senior leadership, administrative and operational activities within the context of a person-centered model of care of resident services including: direct care, social work, care administration, allied health (recreation therapy, music, horticultural, spiritual care, dietitian, occupational and physio therapy and rehabilitation assistant) as well as all external clinical care service providers (medical professionals, dental, foot care, pharmacy and lab services).

The Director is responsible for:

- the strategic and senior leadership of resident services to ensure quality care and programs are in place for the residents in accordance with the Adult Care Regulations, public health and safety regulations, and all other applicable legislation and regulations that govern the care home.
- leading and motivating their team to create a culture of excellence while ensuring an effective and efficient delivery of services and in accordance with the departments’ operating and capital budgets.
- promoting a safe and respectful working environment for residents, families, visitors and staff within their departments.
- being an integral member of the Yaletown House Leadership Team.
- Assuming the role of Acting Executive Director when appointed by the Executive Director or Board of Directors in the Executive Director absence.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Program and Service Delivery Management**
- Ensure that a person-centered model of care is adopted by direct staff when providing care, programs and services to the residents.
- Provide senior leadership to the Manager Clinical Practice and the Manager Social Work & Therapeutic Services and support them in providing leadership and direction to the Clinical Team Leader and direct and indirect staff reports by fostering and promoting new initiatives; interpreting and implementing policies and procedures; mentoring and role modeling; scheduling and assigning work; and monitoring and evaluating work routines.
- Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate resident services to ensure effective and efficient organizational systems are in place.
- Oversee and approve, the development and continuous improvement of resident services policies and procedures, regulatory and professional practice and policy standards, standard operating procedures, safety data sheets and reporting systems in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations and industry and care home standards and expectations. Ensure compliance by employees, contractors and external clinical care service providers for the effective delivery of quality care and services.
- Responsible for the strategic leadership of the development, coordination and evaluation of the clinical programs and recreational/leisure programs.
- Establish, monitor and evaluate all contractors and external clinical care service provider contracts pertaining to the operations of resident services.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the medical coordinator and/or medical staff.
- Demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary care and build and maintain strong collaborative relationships throughout the care home.
- Lead the multidisciplinary team in ethical based discussions to ensure ethical practice.
- Responsible for reviewing and signing off on all follow-up actions taken with regards to all care related incident reports and serious incident reports including ensuring findings are reported and recommendations are implemented.
- Support the Director Finance in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Responsible for the cost effective management of expenditures within the approved operating and capital budgets.
- Participate in the revision and maintenance of the Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness Manuals.
- Prepare Board reports and attend meetings.

**Human Resource Management**
- Provide direction and support to the Manager Clinical Practice and Manager Social Work & Therapeutic Services who will ensure that continuing education programs (in-services) are made available to employees on a planned basis and are designed to meet identified learning needs. This includes fire safety and emergency preparedness.
- Responsible for the senior leadership of resident service’s human resource management. All human resource management must be in accordance with the care home’s human resources policies and procedures and the applicable collective agreements which includes: recruitment and orientation; work schedules; job duties and responsibilities; staff training; payroll, performance evaluations; and attendance management. Maintain interdepartmental consistency.
