Victoria, Canada Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital Full time

**Veterinary Assistant - Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital**

You’re positive, energetic, love animals, and thrive on using your skills and experience to deliver excellent patient care and client service. You appreciate the magic that can happen when you’re part of a close-knit team working together - with the perfect balance of focus and humor - to keep the day running smoothly. You know that veterinary medicine is the field for you, and you’re keen to dive right in.

If this sounds like you, we invite you to join the team at Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital as our newest full time Veterinary Assistant.

Here at Elk Lake, we have an amazing team whose primary goal is exemplary patient and client care. Our Veterinary Assistant role offers the chance to work together with our knowledgeable and mentorship-minded team of veterinarians and technicians to deepen your knowledge of companion animal wellness while providing compassionate and dedicated care for each of our patients. Are you ready to lend a hand?

We’re looking for a Veterinary Assistant who has:

- Experience in the Veterinary industry or similar field
- Excellent time management skills, a flair for adapting quickly to changing circumstances, and natural multi-tasking habits
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- A sense of urgency in their work and dedication to both quality and efficiency
- A deep desire to maintain a workspace that is clean, sterile, and organized
- The initiative to independently problem-solve and anticipate the needs of the team
- The ability to build and maintain a strong rapport with clients
- A strong interest in companion animal wellness and healthcare

Your responsibilities will include:

- Admitting and discharging patients for appointments and procedures
- Outpatient care including feeding, cleaning, and walking
- Assisting DVMs and techs during consultations and procedures
- Medical record-keeping including patient histories, consult records, and discharge instructions
- Preparing medications and prescription refills
- Cleaning and disinfecting hospital wards and equipment, and general janitorial duties
- Client care and communication, including booking appointments and answering telephone inquiries
- Creating invoices and tracking fees/charges, and processing client payments

This position offers above-average compensation and strong benefits including paid wellness days, dental and extended health benefits, scrub allowance, and profit-sharing. Your companion animals will receive veterinary care at a discounted price, ensuring they feel like part of the family too. We love celebrating team milestones (usually with something delicious) and organize staff activities throughout the year - we genuinely like spending time together

Veterinary or medical experience is required, but top-notch customer service, an excellent attitude and compassion for pets and their people are the essential factors. If this position sounds like a strong match for your interests and experience, please submit your cover letter and resume for consideration - we look forward to meeting you.
