Synergy Projects Ltd. is looking for a Area Superintendent to join our team This position will be based out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We are a commercial construction firm in the Edmonton area, with a number of current projects under way, including, light industrial, commercial office, retail and tenant improvement work. The Area Superintendent will be responsible to ensure projects are completed within the time and budget while working to high safety, quality and production standards. The area superintendent will be directly accountable for the supervision of trade partners, project equipment, material and labour employees.

Duty or Responsibility:
Construction Project Management:
- Provide site leadership for the health, safety and environmental protection on the project.
- Work with the Project Manager to create and deliver on the baseline and look-ahead construction schedule in conjunction with trade partners and other members of the project team; ensures project milestones are met are met and regular progress monitoring is completed.
- Provide site leadership for the quality assurance and quality control program to ensure the project is built according to approved plans, specifications and design drawings while ensuring that the Synergy ISO standards are met.
- Cost Control - To what extent do we want Supers responsible for cost?
- Represent company on matters such as contractual requirements with trade partners in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Plans and implements manpower levels and ensures proper equipment and trades are available as required. Responsible to identify risk variables and work with Project Manager to implement and execute risk mitigation strategies
Employee Management:
- Directly responsible to provider oversight and mentorship to the carpenter, apprentice and labourer assignments of the employees assigned to the project.
- Oversees the employee performance management, attendance management, disciplinary, overtime authorization, timesheet approvals and related administrative matters.
- Ensure that the appropriate licensing, safety training, and certification are held by all employees that on the project team..
- Coordinate on the job training for apprentices and mentoring when applicable.
Administrative and Organizational:
- Maintain daily and weekly project documentation such as daily logs, photo records, safety reports, time sheets, and file in accordance with Synergy policies.
- Maintain site project files, including master set of drawings. Collect all information to produce a red-line as built drawing at project completion.
- Responsible to generate accurate purchase order for the acquiring of materials and
- Coordinate the acceptance of deliveries ensure storage of material (Synergy and customer supplied) on site.
- Responsible to lead the administration of the safety program
Decisions and Authority:
- Site Superintendents are authorized to purchase materials, labour and equipment to meet project schedules in accordance with the project schedule and budget up to approximately $50,000.
- Architectural, major structural, schedules and budget issues are deferred to Project Managers or Senior Management.
- Site Superintendents are to direct workflow of employees, trades assigned to the site.
- Site Superintendents are responsible for discipline and performance management issues of site employees. Hiring and terminations decisions require Senior Management’s approval.
- Site Superintendents are responsible for ensuring safe work practices on the job site and can stop work, send employees or trades off site and do what is deemed necessary to ensure everyone gets home safely.
- Site Superintendents have the authority to reject materials or quality of work that does not meet specifications or acceptable standards.
Qualifications Required
- Degree/diploma from a post secondary or trade school, Journeyman Carpenter, Interprovincial Red Seal & CCA Gold Seal certifications or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Professional engineering status or construction trade certification may be required for some projects.
- Leadership for Safety Excellence, Prime contractor, First Aid, WHMIS, CSTS, Fall Protection training are all mandatory requirements for Area Superintendents.
