Through collaboration with the Patient Care manager, the Assistant Manager will participate in overseeing everyday operations with a goal of quality patient centered care, efficient care and ensuring alignment with Lakeridge Health policies. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**: - Plans, organizes, leads and controls the activities of the department including; supporting and promoting a culture of professional growth, responsibility, respect and safety; performance recognition; and instilling an appreciation for the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization. - Ensures staff resources are aligned to deliver complete and consisted patient centered care by: assisting in the recruitment process; overseeing the staffing and scheduling areas to ensure proper process and adherence to collective agreements is occurring; investigating and resolving complaints in regards to scheduling issues; aligning patient care needs to the needs of the department, other departments and external facilities; ensuring adherence to policies, procedures and standards of care; and collaborating with team regarding scheduling, orientation, training and development. - Operationalizes the success of the department by: participating in the grievance process; anticipating and minimizing organizational and unit based barriers; setting performance goals for achieving maximum scope of practice; demonstrating effective working relationships; and partnering with the Patient Care Manager and Clinical Practice Leaders to ensure a collaborative work setting. - Supports the PCM in managing attendance support and ability management activities in conjunction with the designated Occupational Health Specialist i.e. monitoring sick time, leave of absences, and modified work. - Supports the PCM in promoting positive patient relations by investigating patient complaints and compliments with the health care team. - Assists the PCM in the Patient Complaint Management Process. - Identifies, reviews, investigates and supports resolution regarding incidents from the WeCare Reports in regards to Risk and Feedback as well as feedback from patients, families and staff. - Ensure communication to staff in regards to pertinent findings. - Assists PCM in reviewing and completing follow up in the WeCare system. - Ensuring the smooth operation of the department by: daily scheduling and coordination of resources; ensuring ED supplies are adequately maintained; recommending and collaborating in the creation and implementation of policies; and continuously monitoring ED flow to meet benchmarks. **QUALIFICATIONS**: " Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario " Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or a health-related discipline; " current BCLS; ACLS; PALS " Canadian Association Nursing Emergency Nursing Certification preferred, " proven significant recent emergency nursing experience. " 1-2 years of ED Leadership experience required " proven evidence of ongoing education (e.g., workshops, seminars, etc.) " demonstrated knowledge of hospital nursing functions and current trends in nursing and health care; " proven flexibility, initiative, independent judgment and ability to be self-directed within scope of responsibility " demonstrated strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task " proven effective interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict management " proven effective problem solving and critical thinking skills " proven capacity to quickly gain credibility through personal style and professionalism with proven capacity to nurture and mentor others " demonstrated strong presentation skills " demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area; " proven good attendance with the capability of maintaining this same standard **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**: The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.
