The Project Manager is a critical piece of our construction organization. Your individual management success is a major contribution to overall company success. JAX Builders has a bonus program that is based on individual and company results. We want you to be successful and build successful projects through professional delivery and execution. JAX Builders will provide the systems, incentive plan, trust, and tools to get the job done, but we need the right person in place.
- Exceptional customer service. Everything JAX does is done with exceptional customer service. Whether it’s a client or a sub/supplier.
- Efficient management of all project activity involving all project parties (subs, suppliers, clients, consultants, JAX own forces, and inspections). You will be responsible for the projects and the relationships you are managing.
- Build and maintain effective schedules that meet the requirements of project parties. Experienced scheduling skills are a huge asset.
- Identify issues & solutions in advance and better prepare JAX to avoid project related problems to keep projects on time and on budget. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Responsible for maintaining project budgets. Most of our Project Managers are involved in estimating the projects that they will manage. JAX will set you up with projects that can be successfully built at margins that ensure the company will succeed. We need Project Managers who can get our projects built under our set project margins. Managing margin and not sacrificing quality or time is the goal. Experience in project financial management is a must.
- Prepare projects for work on site by procuring materials in advance of the scheduled work activity.
- Chair regular internal project meetings and attend project meetings with our clients and project stakeholders. We will look for someone who can confidently speak to and lead groups.
- Demonstrate your ability to lead and motivate project teams and influence desired outcomes. A hands on, hardworking approach is the JAX Builders way.
- Effectively enforce and help manage the JAX Builders Safety Program on the projects you are responsible for. We take safety seriously and it shows in our JAX Safety Program. We will expect you to take safety seriously, always.
- Work alongside the Superintendent to deliver projects on time, on budget and safely. The ability to quickly form strong working relationships.
- Selection of subs and suppliers to be used on projects. Issuing commitments, contracts, and PO’s to subs and suppliers. Once issued, managing these contracts through the change order process and unknown conditions, until the contract scope is executed, and the contracts are closed out.
- Ensure Superintendents are keeping proper site records. We will provide the systems to ensure your projects are effectively documented and tracked.
- Obtain building occupancy and pass all project progress inspections by the jurisdiction’s inspection department. A strong knowledge of Alberta and Canada building code is a must. Experience closing out projects to occupancy is required.
- Post-secondary education related to construction and engineering is a huge asset. Equivalent work experience will be considered. To provide an example, most of our Project Managers have their Civil Engineering Technology diploma from SAIT. Construction management focused diplomas and degrees will serve you well
- Construction knowledge with soils work, compaction, excavations, concrete form & placing, rebar, wood framing, metals, structural steel, paving, and finishes (exterior EIFS, Siding, Roofing, interior drywall, tile, finish carpentry, millwork, ceiling systems, electrical, and mechanical) are required. As a Project Manager we would expect you to be proficient in mechanical and electrical scopes, not just architectural and structural.
- Experienced with Microsoft Office and Procore (or a related PM system).
- You will be directly reporting to our Operations Manager. You will be working closely/daily with our Site Superintendents. You will also be working with our accounting department to ensure your project financials are coded correctly, your budgets are properly maintained, and your subs and suppliers are being paid.
- Valid drivers license and vehicle. JAX will cover travel expenses and use of personal vehidles.
