**Position Summary**:
Nursing Practice Consultant, Mental Health and Substance Use** **delivers professional nursing support and educational activities to community based in relation to mental health and substance use to improve nursing practice standards in communities. This role supports the planning and implementation of training and skill development activities for community nurses employed in the delivery of nursing care in First Nations communities.
**As a health and wellness organization, the First Nations Health Authority has aligned with the Provincial Public Health Order released on October 14, 2021. We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees at First Nations Health Authority. This policy requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If selected for employment, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination by providing a copy of your BC Vaccination Card Passport with the QR code.**
**Responsibilities**:
- Plans, organizes, and delivers a comprehensive range of professional nursing services in communities and in the office, including consultation, assessment, facilitation, teaching, and evaluation to further the development of knowledge and skills for nurses working in community with clients challenged with substance use.
- Provides clinical expertise to nurses to assist them in providing safe and competent nursing care, in the areas of substance use, addictions, mental health and trauma informed practice.
- Coordinates, plans, arranges, and delivers courses, workshops, and other educational sessions in communities or online to meet the needs and priorities of nurses in communities and centralized locations.
- Provides clinical advice and assistance to community health practice consultants, nursing staff in clinical settings, and provides regular clinical information on clinical care related to mental health and substance use through in-services, case conferencing, conferences, and training sessions.

**Qualifications**:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Additional training and education related to substance use, addictions, mental health and trauma informed practice.
- Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse providing clinical practice support in primary care, community and/or public health nursing or acute care, ambulatory care and/or outpatient centres, including two (2) years of experience caring for clients with mental health and substance use concerns.
- Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
**Knowledge, Skills & Attributes**:
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply, an understanding of First Nations cultural principles and protocols in work situations.
- Knowledge of traditional, alternative, complementary, and other recognized healing practices.
- Knowledge of concepts, principles and theories of trans-cultural nursing, including knowledge of traditional, homeopathic, or other healing practices used in the community.
- Knowledge of health status of populations, inequities in health, the determinants of health and illness, principals of primary care, strategies for health promotion, disease and injury prevention, health protection, curative, urgent and emergent care, rehabilitation, and supportive or palliative care.
- Knowledge of the nursing process, conceptual frameworks of nursing, and theories and principles of nursing practice.
