Nestled within the beautiful Rocky and Purcell Mountains, in the southeast corner of British Columbia, the East Kootenay region is a four-season destination. The region boasts unlimited year-round outdoor recreation including skiing, hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, golfing, boating, hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, mountaineering, white-water rafting, and snowmobiling. The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) serves over 60,000 permanent residents and approximately 25,000 to 30,000 seasonal residents. The region is diverse, and home to several unincorporated communities, eight municipalities, and four First Nations communities.
Under the supervision of the Recreation Services Supervisor, the Arena Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena.
**Qualifications & Experience**
- Up to one year experience.
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Refrigeration Safety Awareness course will be completed upon hire.
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate.
- Criminal Record check.
- BC Driver’s Licence.
**Key Skills and Abilities**:
- Computer literate
- Engage with fellow employees and the public in a courteous manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of ice arena operations and equipment.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial work.
- Knowledge of WHMIS procedures and use of personal respirator.
- Maintain composure and find solutions when dealing with difficult customers.
- Organize work schedule to meet deadlines and priorities.
- Physical ability to carry out work activities.
- Work and operate equipment safely on job sites.
The RDEK offers a great work environment and an attractive total compensation package, which includes a competitive salary, excellent benefits, a modified work week and learning opportunities. This is a temporary, full-time (40 hours per week) Union position with a starting hourly rate of $29.39 and an increase to $30.87, after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period. This position is expected to last until December 31, 2025.
