**DESCRIPTION**:
de la terre café + bakery is an artisanal café + bakery in Downtown St.Catharines, known for our sourdough bread and spelt based pastries. Our cafe + bakery is a medium sized cafe seating about 30 inside, and about 30 on the outside patio. We are seeking to hire a skilled, responsible, and reliable individual to join our team and work in the kitchen. We are searching to fill a full-time position between 32-40 hours a week. Applicants must have availability on the weekends and must be able and comfortable working on the line. This position requires applicants be comfortable standing and walking throughout the day, as well are comfortable and confident working under pressure. Applicants must be comfortable working as part of a team and must have strong communication skills. With the nature of the cafe set up being what it is, cross

**Position Overview**
The Line Cook will play a key role in daily food preparation, service, and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen. This is a full-time position that requires flexibility for early morning shifts, weekend availability, and a passion for high-quality food production. The role involves working in an open kitchen, engaging with guests, and ensuring every dish meets de la terre’s high standards.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Opening Duties**
- Set up the kitchen and prep station for breakfast and lunch service.
- Ensure all necessary ingredients and mise-en-place are prepped and available.
- Review menu items and special offerings for the day to prepare for service.
- Perform morning checks on equipment and tools to ensure functionality.
**Cooking and Food Preparation**
- Prepare and execute breakfast and lunch menu items, including seasonal sandwiches, soups, and salads.
- Follow recipes and kitchen protocols to ensure consistency in quality, taste, and presentation.
- Assemble and plate dishes with precision, ensuring timely delivery of orders during peak service.
- Adjust to any menu changes or special requests during service, maintaining attention to detail.
**Service Line and Station Maintenance**
- Keep the service line organized, stocked, and clean throughout the shift.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple orders simultaneously.
- Ensure all food preparation follows proper food safety and sanitation protocols.
- Communicate proactively with the Kitchen Manager and front-of-house staff to keep service smooth.
**Prepping for Future Service**
- Complete daily food prep for upcoming services, including sauces, dressings, vegetables, and proteins.
- Ensure that enough mise-en-place is prepared to maintain consistency and avoid delays during future services.
**Closing Duties**
- Break down and clean all stations, ensuring the kitchen is fully sanitized by the end of the day.
- Safely store ingredients, label prepped items, and check for proper storage temperatures.
- Prepare the kitchen for the following day's opening by organizing supplies and ensuring everything is set up for a smooth start.
**Quality Control and Ingredient Management**
- Inspect ingredients upon delivery to verify freshness, quality, and quantity.
- Reject or report any substandard items to the Kitchen Manager.
- Properly store and label food items to ensure mínimal waste and optimal freshness.
**Cross-Training in Other BOH Duties**
- Participate in cross-training for other back-of-house roles, including bread and pastry baking.
- Assist with additional kitchen tasks as required, including supporting bakery operations when needed.
**Maintain Cleanliness and Safety**
- Ensure all work areas are kept clean and orderly during and after service.
- Comply with food safety and hygiene standards, including proper handwashing, sanitation, and allergen handling procedures.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
**SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- Must have experience in a kitchen or food service environment. Minimum 1-year experience is required in a kitchen or food service environment.
- Education and/or training in culinary arts at a recognized educational institute is an asset.
- Excellent time management skills are necessary to be successful
- Proper food handling experience is required; The Safe Food Handlers certificate is required.
- Must be able to multi task and handle multiple priorities at once
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $17.20-$18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 - 44 per week
