What does your day look like as a Garden Centre manager?
- Lead, coach, manage, and mentor your team
- Strategically procure and order inventory including plant material, soils, fertilizers, tools,
etc. anticipating needs for future products
- Provide advice and expertise in horticulture and gardening to our team and clients
- Merchandise inventory and create beautiful product displays
- Manage overall retail store, labour, and budget
- Implement new and exciting marketing or event ideas
Here at the Caledonia Garden centre the manager oversees all the daily
operations of the retail garden center. These responsibilities include and are
not limited tosupervising the staff, managing the budget, encouraging
retail sales and up selling, and keeping a new and fresh inventory. Other
common duties revolve around the maintenance of the inventory, which
often includes weeding, pruning, and watering.
What do we need from you?
- Ability to exceed expectations for all five of our core values
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a customer service role
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Garden centre managerial role
- Strong leadership qualities with ability to develop and maintain a dynamic team
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Strong financial acumen
- Understands sales skills and comfortable training your team on this
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible availability including weekends and holidays during our busy seasons
- A passion for the landscaping and horticulture industry
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds repetitively and work in all weather conditions
- Proficient with POS systems, accounting software and calendar programs
Additional assets that you may have:
- Ability to operate skid steer, or willingness to learn through our in-house training
program
- Knowledge on differing soil types, fertilizers/pesticides, and overall pest management
Main Responsibilities Include
Managing Staff
A significant part of a Garden Centre Manager’s role is to manage and lead the staff. This
includes hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating employees to ensure that the garden centre
operates smoothly and efficiently.
Inventory Management
The Garden Centre Managers is responsible for maintaining inventory levels. This involves
ordering plants, gardening supplies, and other products, ensuring that stock levels are
adequate to meet customer demand without overstocking.
Customer Service
Providing excellent customer service is crucial in this role. The Garden Centre Managers need to
ensure that customers have a positive shopping experience, addressing any queries or
complaints promptly and effectively is a priority and the mainstay of the business.
Sales and Marketing
Developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies is key to attracting customers and
driving sales. This can include organizing promotional events, managing social media accounts,
and creating attractive displays.
Financial Management
Managing the financial aspects of the garden centre, such as budgeting, sales forecasting, and
financial reporting, is another important responsibility. The Garden Centre Manager needs to
ensure the business working towards a profitable outcome.
