Store Manager Job Description
This is a list of expectations of areas of duties, responsibilities and accountabilities of the Store Manager. These can vary depending on the store needs and growth of the store and its customer base. We are looking for someone that is passionate about resale, succeeding and working in a unique retail industry. We are looking for someone that is energetic, positive and has a lot of creativity and is hungry to succeed, meet goals, exceed goals, plan and work with the owners side by side.
**A. HR**
**1.** **Business Culture / Work Environment**
- Maintain a culture of business, respect and professionalism
- Do not allow staff to complain (unless its harassment related)
- Allow staff to provide constructive feedback on areas of improvements
- Do not allow staff to bad talk other employees
- Make sure all staff feel respected and included
- Cell phones are NOT allowed on the floor including leaders - use store phone
**2. Employee Retention**
- Hold monthly individual meetings with each employee
- Take note and communicate employees that want to be promoted
- Stay up to date on their training needs/issues & progress (work & discuss weekly with owners, assistant manager)
- In situations of employee-to-employee conflict, exude an appropriate mediation & conflict resolution: sit both employees down to discuss issues openly, or meet with them separately to get conflict resolved
**3. Interview / Hire / Onboarding**
- Evaluate their fit, create a welcoming environment
- Streamline and follow onboarding procedures
**4. Discipline**
- Speak to the employees about the issues at hand immediately - take notes of the date, time and the conversations
- Provide improvement points & set a solid date for issues to be resolved
- Document all disciplinary actions with the proper form
- Watch the details of staff. When time allows check on them that they are completing their job with accuracy and fix anyone who needs it
- Holding keyholders accountable:
- leave keyholders to do lists for their shifts
- read recap and make sure keyholders are doing projects/keeping busy on slower shifts
- Make sure keyholders are addressing issues with employees on their shift. Keyholders should be driving the team which means direct and confident communication with very clear expectations and follow up.
- Discuss employee issues with owner for procedures, how to, next steps, etc.
**5. Training**
- Meet with the training manager 30 minutes weekly to discuss staff training needs
- Hold the trainer accountable that they are keeping with each employee’s training plan
- Know where the next step is for every employee
- make sure staff is constantly improving
- know every employee’s strength and weakness
- train extra in areas employee is interested
- Constantly take notes of mistakes throughout the week & communicate with trainer on training needs
- Make sure keyholders are reinforcing training
- leave keyholders with training checklists for shift
- are they using training binder?
- are they checking after employees?
- Pricing opportunities - train where staff could adjust prices up or down
**B. Floor/Backstock**
**1.** **Maintenance**
- Meet with the Inventory lead for 15 minutes every day to discuss daily maintenance areas (color floor plan)
- Inventory lead to assign maintenance duties with evening/weekend staff
- Hold Inventory lead accountable that floor maintenance is done daily
- Check up on employees for floor maintenance accurate completion
- Walk the floor daily to take note of refill needs
- Hold staff accountable when floor maintenance is assigned - do not allow them to be lazy or cut corners
- Make sure the items are picked off floor every night at close. Keep keyholders/team accountable for this.
**2. Floor Needs**
- Discuss refill needs/plans with Inventory lead weekly, confirm with Resale backstock bins on hand
- Provide a weekly an inventory floor replenishing list to owner
- Walk the floor weekly & identify slow moving inventory
- Walk the floor weekly & identify inventory needs (what we MUST buy)
- Do not allow staff to make floor too full - provide solutions to sections too full (ex: adopt new floor allocation to increase floor space for that size, tote bag deal, backstocking, etc)
- Know how/when to install and move clothing bars
- KEEP FLOOR FULL AT ALL TIMES - find creative ways to fill floor when low on certain categories & sizes
- Hold staff accountable when refilling the floor (ex. sizes, colors, space allotments are followed & respected)
**3. Backstock**
- KNOW you backstock - KNOW what you HAVE and what you NEED
- Check backstock bins to make sure employees aren’t being lazy
- Make sure staff fill backstock bins properly (not to full, not to empty)
- Make sure proper tape is used on each bin
- Twice weekly, take random backstock bins and go through them to make sure staff are putting things in neatly; proper gender, size and items are in the bins
