The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.

**Position title**: Audio Visual Technician

**Department**: Food & Beverage - Catering & Conferences (C&C)

**Reports to**: Catering & Conferences Operations Manager

**Status**: Independent Contractor (Non-AMS employee)

**Hours per week**: On-call, Event Based

Position Purpose

Audio visual technicians operate and maintain equipment used to amplify, record and display sound and images at live events.

**Services Rendered**:

- Set up and operation of small to large-scale audiovisual systems
- Providing friendly, prompt, courteous, professional service to all guests
- Setup, operation, and breakdown of basic audiovisual equipment including speakers, mixers, lighting, fast fold screens, projectors, wireless microphones
- Understands the technical aspects of the job and demonstrates basic operational ability to troubleshoot and problem solve with equipment and software issues.
- Handles equipment challenges and changes in a timely and professional manner.
- Efficiently pull, terminate, label, and test cabling between audio, video, data, and control equipment.
- Demonstrate your knowledge and experience with audio-visual systems, programming and products/components to our clients and other partners.
- Audio visual technicians must be creative and flexible
- Provide service in line with the AMS mission statement and values
- Contractors must maintain a professional appearance
- Other services as required

Qualifications and Experience
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to interact with AMS employees and clients, often under deadline pressure
- Able to sit and stand for long periods and have good hearing and eyesight.
- Able to work independently
- Ability to perform shift work (daytime, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays) and on call
- Must be able to climb ladders up to 20’ high
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of video, audio, and control connectors and cabling
- Ability to understand programming systems and interfaces and equipment configuration
- High school diploma or GED and/or an associate's degree
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Language: Required to speak, read and write English, with fluency in other languages being an asset
