**Advanced Research Computing Analyst**:

**Primary Purpose**: In support of Research Computing in ICT, the Advanced Research Computing (ARC) Analyst accelerates research at the University by facilitating the effective use of ARC resources and High Performance Computing (HPC) resources provided by the University and Digital Research Alliance of Canada. The position is responsible for supporting faculty members, students, and staff, by providing ARC support to a wide variety of research projects through different stages of the research life cycle.
**Nature of Work**: The ARC Analyst reports to the ARC Coordinator and works with both research team members and system administrators in ICT Systems and Research Computing, providing advanced computing solutions in the form of infrastructure, software, and consulting services. The ARC Analyst adapts and supports scientific software to establish efficient workflows on ARC infrastructure, implements algorithms, compiles technical reports, and supports research projects through analysis. The analyst promotes ARC community growth by conducting and organizing workshops and seminars for faculty and students and prepares technical training materials. The ARC analyst serves both locally at the University of Saskatchewan and as an analyst for Digital Research Alliance of Canada, supporting Canadian research on national ARC infrastructure.
This position requires expertise in the use of research technologies, a client-focused and collaborative approach to service, and an understanding of the research process and the IT environment of the university. The position requires the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team, and to appropriately prioritize response to a wide variety of time-sensitive tasks.
Participation in local and Digital Research Alliance of Canada meetings and working groups is expected and occasional travel, both within Canada and internationally, may be required.
Occasional work outside of core business hours is required, balanced by flex-time consideration.

**Accountabilities**:
The key accountabilities for this position are:
- Help researchers and major research projects advance their research by implementing appropriate ARC frameworks.
- Optimize and/or adapt code and software packages for researchers to make optimal use of HPC resources.
- Provide consultancy on algorithm development and implementation, and technical software development.
- Organize, prepare, and conduct introductory seminars in advanced research computing and HPC for staff and researchers.
- Organize, prepare and conduct advanced seminars;
- Prepare tutorials and short guides related to the packages and frameworks in our research community.
- Promote the impact of the HPC resources and the Research Computing group services in the research community.
- Provide user support and technical issue resolution through issue tracking systems maintained by the University and Digital research Alliance of Canada.
- Participate effectively in Digital Research Alliance of Canadatechnical and working groups, where assigned.
- Actively participate in the ICT Systems and Research Computing team, including discussions, decisions and tasks related to the overall configuration, operation, and support of IT for research and scholarship.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues, including cultural, socio-economic and other factors affecting Indigenous Peoples and an awareness that Indigenous engagement is a strategic priority at the University.
**Qualifications**
A diploma, certificate or degree in a related discipline is required (e.g., computer science, engineering). A graduate degree would be an asset. Demonstrated progress through increasingly responsible, substantive positions involving research, advanced research computing, and/or information technology.
**Skills**: Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken). Ability to work in multidisciplinary projects with people with different backgrounds and technical skill levels. Ability to work independently with an interest in learning new technologies and solving scientific problems with software.
