The position helps draft goals and track progress. The position advocates for DEIA initiatives within the Embassy and Consulates and may assist with coordinating administrative tasks for cross agencies/section efforts for externally focused DEIA activities. The position directly advises the Chief of Mission and takes direction from the executive office on DEIA issues. The position drafts action memos, notices, and organizes events. The position is aware of DEIA initiatives from other agencies and deconflicts events and prioritizes them for the Embassy community. This position reports to the Chief of Mission, but is supervised by the Management Counselor.

The incumbent assists with developing and implementing DEIA goals and strategies and coordinates DEIA inclusion priorities with the Chief of Mission. The Mission's DEIA Councils propose, plan, and create activities to address identified challenges. In addition, the Department of State and other agencies also are creating content and events which may dovetail with Post's prioritized goals. This position seeks out DEIA events and content by the Department of State and other agencies and reviews them for inclusion into Post's DEIA schedule. The position also needs to find ways to include the full Mission community-not just agencies and sections interested in DEIA efforts. The DEIA Coordinator may select and promote non-Mission-organized events, such as those put on by the Department, bureaus, affinity groups, government groups, and others.

Thorough understanding of the U.S. government's and Department of State's DEIA goals and initiatives, as well as related programs with other agencies, found at Post. Knowledge of effective DEIA best practices, organization operations, and control. Familiarity with the Mission and its sections and a detailed understanding of the Embassy's leadership structure.
