**Abiona Centre (“the Centre”)** is an award-winning, accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre that is a multi-service, non-profit, unionized, community agency located in the east end of Toronto. The Centre is committed to nurturing empowerment, independence and growth for young pregnant and parenting women, children and families in a non-judgmental, inclusive environment by providing a residential care and treatment program; supportive transitional housing; on-site high school program, community housing support and referral services; and maternal infant mental health programs and services. We do this by working collaboratively as a multi-disciplinary team with community partners to provide holistic programs and support that respond to mental health, education and transitional needs. The Centre also operates an EarlyON Child and Family Centre and an Early Learning Centre. All the programs and services are open to families, young women and their children living in the broader community.

The Centre has two openings for **Peer Support Worker**under the **Canada Summer Jobs program, which** provides young people aged 15 to 30 the opportunity to gain meaningful work and life experience while supporting community-based initiatives

To be eligible, you must:

- Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the funded position.
- Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
- Have a valid SIN
- International students, and those who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible for the program.

The **Peer Support Worker** will be responsible for

Meeting Coordination:

- Schedule and organize Young Parents Advisory Committee (YPAC) meetings, send reminders.
- Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and materials.
- Attend all YPAC and related committee meetings, ensuring they run in a structured and professional manner.

Administrative Support:

- Manage communications between committee members, staff advisors, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain and update records and databases relevant to committee activities.

Event Planning and Support:

- Organize and coordinate events and workshops for the committee.
- Provide logístical support during events, including setup and breakdown.

Recruitment and Outreach:

- Assist in recruiting new YPAC members.
- Engage in outreach to potential members and promote YPAC activities.

Program Support:

- Support the implementation of YPAC programs and initiatives under the guidance of the Staff Advisor.
- Contribute to the development of new programs and strategies to increase youth engagement.
- Integrate YPAC with job preparation programs.
- Collaborate in organizing and developing programs that address the needs and interests of committee members.
- Propose engaging workshops, activities, and initiatives with committee members.

Outreach:

- Support efforts to engage other young parents and encourage their participation in YPAC activities.
- Promote committee programs and events through various channels, including social media and community networks.

**Position: Peer Support Worker (2 positions)**

**Term**: 8 weeks starting April/May 2025 (35 hours/week)

**Rate of Pay**:$17.20/ hour

**Reports to**: Director, Housing & Community Support

**Qualification**:

- Enrolled in, or completed, a recognized Social Work, Mental Health or Child and Youth Worker program
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
