Post Doctoral Fellow

The Ottawa Methods Centre (OMC) is part of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and provides expertise and support to health professionals and researchers at all stages of a research project. The OMC has been instrumental in establishing The Ottawa Hospital as one of Canada's leading centers for clinical research. Housed within OMC, the Office for Patient Engagement in Research Activities (OPERA) supports patient-oriented research through consultations, training, resources, partnerships, and additional research to advance the body of knowledge in this area. OMC is also a Clinical Trial Unit within the Accelerating Clinical Trials (ACT) Consortium

The OMC seeks a Post-Doctoral Fellow (or equivalent based on experience) for OPERA to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team under the guidance of OHRI's Deputy Scientific Director, Clinical Research & Director, Clinical Epidemiology (Dr. Dean Fergusson) and Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Program facilitator (Dr. Stuart Nicholls).

The Post-doctoral Fellow will work to understand the current landscape of patient engagement in Canadian clinical trials (including existing resources and frameworks) and undertake a needs assessment to determine gaps/areas of need to support patient engagement in the design and conduct of clinical trials in Canada.

**Basic Requirements (Education/Experience)**:

- Background in applied health research, and preferably survey-based research methods.
- Applicants can include those near graduating from a PhD program. recently awarded a PhD or MD/PhD degree within the last year or who have a maximum of 3 yrs. postdoctoral research experience since the date of earning the PhD.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Bilingualism would be an asset for the role given the pan-Canadian nature of the ACT Consortium, as would experience with knowledge synthesis methods approaches, however training will be provided.
- Experience with patient engagement or participatory-based research methods is desirable.
- Familiarity with clinical trials is an asset.

**Contract Details**:
This is a 2-year full-time contract with the possibility of renewal.

**Salary**: PDF: (0-2yrs post-PhD) $47,000 annual minimum

**Salary**: PDF: (more than 2yrs post-PhD) $50,000 annual minimum

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
