**Program Description**:
Friendship Catering Services is an Aboriginal Friendship Centre social enterprise committed to providing high-quality catering services for clients in the Vancouver area, Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre's programs, and community members accessing the Centre.
**Position Description**:
The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food according to the Head Chef's instructions and the clientele’s requests. They set up menu stations and arrange other food and beverage supplies. They utilize specialized culinary equipment to process raw produce, meat products, and other foodstuffs and then work to produce the final dishes.
A successful Line Cook is committed to quality and has excellent attention to detail. They are also capable of focusing in a fast-paced environment with distractions.
**Responsibilities**:
- Storing food and ingredients.
- Ensuring that the food used in food preparation is fresh.
- Assisting in stocking and preparing kitchen stations.
- Preparing food, including weighing, cleaning, and chopping ingredients and cooking entrees, desserts, and appetizers per the chef’s instructions.
- Plating and garnishing food for serving.
- Keeping work areas, equipment, utensils, and dishes sanitized and clean.
- Ensuring that the kitchen's operations and cleanliness adhere to food safety requirements and standards.
- Performing temperature checks on the fridge, freezers, and cooked meat as needed.
- Alerting the Head Chef to any quality issues.
- Alerting the Front of House Supervisor, as needed, to any menu changes.
- Collaborating with Back of House and Front of House to ensure a quality restaurant experience for clients.
- Working in a safe manner by following all safety procedures for work with knives, and hot and cold elements.
- Performing additional relevant tasks as assigned by the Head Chef.
**Qualifications**:
- 5 years of experience as a cook or any related position in the kitchen.
- Certificate or diploma in culinary arts or related field.
- High school diploma or General Education Degree equivalent.
- Must possess Food Safety training.
- Must possess or be willing to participate in First Aid training.
- Experience in a commercial kitchen is preferred.
- Experience in the food service industry is required.
- Knowledge of food safety, hazardous materials in the workplace, and first aid.
- Excellent knowledge of ingredients, recipes, kitchen safety, and hygiene.
- General knowledge of kitchen equipment and appliances an asset.
- BC Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract.

**Working Conditions**:
- Exposure to very hot temperatures

- May require lifting heavy loads of up to 50 pounds at a time.
- May require varied shifts.
- Overtime and hours outside of the typical working schedule may be required.
