**R&D Lead**

**Key Solutions**

**Reports to the Key Solutions Business Unit Manager**

**Purpose of Key Solutions**: To consult on, design, build, and commission industrial automation and motion control systems.

Location: This position qualifies for hybr

**Specifically the Technician must**:

- Design control system hardware, including electrical schematics and material lists. Knowledge of CSA and UL508A panel requirements is required.
- Design and develop control system software according to the requirements of the customer
- Size motion systems based on customer requirements
- Periodically develop mechanical parts in CAD software
- Exhibit good knowledge of electrical and mechanical design
- Develop and maintain design standards at IDS
- Develop instruction manuals on developed systems for internal and external use
- Be proficient in the use of basic electrical tools and computerized equipment.
- Learn new technologies as they arise.
- Develop quotes with the Key Solutions Sales Lead
- Have knowledge of applicable industry standards including ISO and CSA along with an awareness of quality manufacturing and willingness to learn the IDS Quality of Excellence standard.
- Inspect and certify built equipment to CSA standard

**The R&D Lead must ensure**:

- ISO and CSA and IDS standards are followed at all times.
- The quality of the product being produced for our customer meets or exceeds the IDS standard of excellence.
- Tracking, monitoring, and reporting is completed for ISO and quality purposes.
- Knowledge of Work Place Health and Safety protocol is up to date.
- Work Place Health and Safety is being followed at all times.
- Participation in education and training provided by the employer and be willing to take the initiative to develop their work skills to meet the company’s future goals.

**Note**:Some overtime, weekend, and holiday hours may be required. This position requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to hold a current passport. Some heavy lifting may be required.

**Education**:Post Secondary Electrical or Mechatronics Diploma or Degree (other relevant technologies will be considered) with specific knowledge in the following areas:

- Understanding of control circuit design is critical.
- Understanding of 2D CAD software (AutoCAD) is critical.
- Understanding of software development (Ladder, Structured Text, C/C++) is critical.
- Understanding of electrical motor control is critical.
- Understanding of mechanical relations in a moving system (torque, inertia, kinetic energy) is desirable but not necessary.
- Understanding of web development (HTML, HTML5, Java, CSS) is desirable but not necessary.

**Experience**:Relevant experience an asset and will be used to determine starting wage, however we are willing to train well qualified recent graduates. Experience in developing system specifications is an asset. Experience in developing engineering control systems estimates is an asset.

Working experience with any of the following platforms are an asset:

- Rockwell (Allen Bradley) PLC and motion systems.
- Siemens PLC and motion systems.
- B&R PLC and motion systems.
- Parker SSD drive systems.
- Schneider drive systems.
- .NET Development
- Arduino
- AutoCAD
- Eplan

**Certifications**:

- Valid driver’s license for independent use in Canada and the USA
- Canadian passport or ability to travel between Canada and the USA

**Salary**: $66,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
