**The Opportunity**

We are currently seeking a **Manager of Circular Mining **to join our **Strategy & Business Development Base Metals **team in **Toronto **. This is a **permanent **position.

Main objective of this role is to find and develop long-term opportunities to reprocess and/or repurpose minerals in mining & processing wastes as well as reducing the on-going generation of waste through innovations and partnerships. This role will identify and execute tangible waste recovery opportunities that bring economic and environment benefits aligned with strategies of the regional operations and overall Base Metals business. Over number of years, the incumbent in this role is expected to grow waste recovery into meaningful business for Vale Base Metals.

Additionally, in this position you will
- The creation of the business strategy and roadmap to focus on Circular mining, refining from Tailings, Slag, Water, and Rock Stockpiles as well as on-going waste sources. Understand where the greatest opportunities are which may present a long-term production alternative. Creation of a commercial plan and strategy to execute on the greatest opportunities
- Work with the Base Metal operations and wider business to create a strategic roadmap across the Base Metals business with an understanding of a short term (0-2 years) medium term (2-5 years) and long term (5 years+) objectives.
- Coordinate with the Research and Development team (internal) and external partnerships to back the technology and processes that represent the greatest opportunities.
- Structure and negotiate commercial and technology agreements with external parties to support the Circular Mining business strategy
- Successfully prioritize the R&D budget to focus on the highest value opportunities
- Conduct external reviews to understand what competitors and start-ups are doing in the Circular Mining space. Evaluate and prioritize which approaches have applicability to Vale Base Metals
- Utilize systems and tools available to support decision-making, inclusive of improving process optimization and evaluation of technical alternatives to advance the production.
- Act as the Leader for Circular Mining initiatives with the support of a small direct team
- Foster engagement and collaboration amongst the operations, maintenance, finance, technology and integrated planning teams to ensure optimal process efficiency
- Collaborate directly with Directors and Operations Managers, Business Development and Planning to support the continuous development of the annual capex program used to facilitate the Base Metals strategic plan.
- Create a safe working environment amongst their teams, whilst introducing and implementing best practices that are used and shared
- Effectively manage, lead and develop the Base Metals Circular Mining team, with a view to building a succession plan to meet the next 5 years requirements and strategy. This includes recruiting, training and performance evaluation.

- Undergraduate Degree

Skills and Experience:

- Over 15 years of relevant experience
- Have a commercial and entrepreneurial ability to build and create value through the group’s outputs, technology, and partnerships.
- Solid understanding of standards, safety, engineering, operations, maintenance, and procurement.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams in an international environment, with proven ability to work and communicate effectively within a team.
- Experience of operating at a senior level and communicate effectively up to an executive leadership team.
- Core awareness of identifying critical items and ensuring sufficient detail to allow for decisions to be made.
