South Vancouver Neighbourhood House is looking for an Adult Day Centre Summer Activity Assistant for our
Beulah Adult Day Centre. Our Adult Day Centre provides specialized services for frail seniors and older adults with
cognitive challenges who live independently or with caregivers in the community. Utilizing a person-centred
approach, we are committed to enriching the lives of our participants. The Adult Day Centre Activity Assistant will
be motivated to help research, design, develop and implement a variety of therapeutic social and recreational
programs that meet the complex health care of a diverse seniors’ population. The Activity Assistant works in a
supportive team environment in client centered program development, delivery and evaluation.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Welcome older adult participants (65+) to the program each morning
- Assist with coffee, tea, and meal service
- Provide staff support during therapeutic activities and exercises
- Assist staff to plan, facilitate, monitor and evaluate therapeutic activities that address social, emotional,
- physical and cognitive needs of participants
- Assist with Care Plans and participant biographies
- General program set-up and clean-up
- Provide one-on-one social interaction with participants to ease the challenges of isolation
- Actively participate in daily/monthly staff meetings
- Assist with monthly newsletter and calendar
- Respect confidentiality
- Attend all required orientation and training
- Provide outing support and supervision
- Other duties as required

**Qualifications**:
This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs and to be eligible, applicants must be:

- Between 19 to 30 years of age at the start of employment
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under
- the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients and to observe and recognize changes
- Knowledge/experience in various recreational activities geared towards an older adult population (arts,
- crafts, active games, etc)
- Enthusiasm and interest to develop, deliver and evaluate individual and group activities
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Diploma/Certificate or related knowledge of therapeutic recreation or related field
- Knowledge of health challenges older adults experience
- Ability to speak additional languages an asset
- Class 4 BC drivers license an asset
- Emergency 1st aid an asset

**Compensation**: $23.10 per hour plus 4% vacation pay

- 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9am-3pm
