**Carpenter**

**Carpenter’s** construct, erect, install, maintain, and repair structures and components of structures made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools for commercial, low rise and industrial building
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
- Supervise apprentices and other construction workers
- Complete material take-offs for work tasks
- Pre-plan tool and material requirements for projects
- Manage material for work tasks in an efficient manner to minimize waste

**Requirements**:

- 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Red Seal designation an asset
- Valid driver’s license and own mode of transportation
- Ability to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions (cold, rain, heat, etc,)
- Ability to meet physical demands of job
