Position Overview:
Reporting to the Regional EH&S Manager, this individual will develop and maintain close relationships with branch management, EH&S committees and employees to assist Finning to achieve its corporate commitment to Environment, Health & Safety. The EH&S Advisor is also responsible for providing a specific industry/region of Finning (Canada)’s branches with professional EH&S expertise and guidance.
**Job Description**:
Major Job Functions:
- Act as a “one window” Health & Safety service provider for designated regions, providing professional expertise and guidance in all areas of Environment, Health & Safety. Assist branch management and their EHS committees by diagnosing potential challenges and providing effective solutions
- Participate in all incident calls and investigations for workplace incidents within the territory
- Assist branches by providing accurate interpretations of applicable EHS legislation and in implementing the Corporate EH&S management system effectively and consistently
- Identify tactical deficiencies at branch level to assist in the development of corporate EH&S initiatives
Specific Skills:
- Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring and human resource management skills
- Team player with the ability to work with employees and business leaders at multiple levels in the organization
- Solid organizational, time management, prioritization, and independent problem solving
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to continue to learn and develop
- Effective training and facilitation skills, familiarity with adult learning techniques
- Ability to influence senior regional management in both compliance and engagement of health and safety
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of provincial and federal regulations for EH&S
- Current knowledge of EH&S practices
- Thorough understanding of Finning specific programs, operations, products and services
- Thorough understanding of the Finning (Canada) EH&S management system
- Understands and adheres to Finning policies and procedures, with an emphasis on safety
**Experience**:
- 2 years’ experience in related work environment
- Related industry safety audit experience Professional OHS education and experience
- Root cause investigation experience considered an asset
- Project Management experience will be considered an assets
Accountability:
- Accountable for the interpretation of the Provincial and Federal OHS legislation as it applies to the Finning workplace
- Provide accurate professional opinions supporting risk management, such as the definition of “reasonable” risk and accepted safe practice
- Thorough understanding of due diligence including the ability to train and enforce due diligence right up to the level of regional general manager
- Assist branches to implement consistent industry best practices in accordance with the Finning (Canada) Environment Health & Safety System
- Foster and maintain close relationships with the branch management and staff to allow them to identify areas of improvement within the corporate Health & Safety management system
- Deliver effective and interactive EHS presentations, workshops and training programs that will increase the knowledge and participation of Finning employees in the Corporate EHS management system
- Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner and maintain effective relationships with internal departments and staff while maintaining confidentiality
