Overall Accountability

The Education Assistant, English Language Learning provides appropriate learning and cultural support to English Language Learning preschool children. Based on the recognized needs of the students, the Education Assistant may work with preschool children in a one-to-one, small group or classroom support model to provide language acquisition, cultural and transition supports planned by the teacher.

Specific Accountabilities
- Develops positive working relationships that include effective communication with the preschool children and teachers
- Assists administration and teachers to provide appropriate models of language and cultural support for students
- Improves the English Language Learning preschool children’s communicative and cultural competence
- Assists in the creation of a culturally sensitive environment in the school and the classroom
- Assists in the maintenance and organization of related documents and reports
- Adheres to OH&S cleaning guidelines
- Assists students during school celebrations, liturgical events, services and attendance at Mass at local parishes

**Qualifications**:

- Category 2 - High school diploma
- Category 3 - High school diploma and the equivalent of a minimum of one (1) year post-secondary course study
- Excellent command of the English language including listening, speaking, reading and writing
- Superior interpersonal and organizational skills
- Positive, flexible and able to respond to the changing needs of newly arrived preschool children and working environments
- Second language skills preferred
