**CITY OF DAWSON CREEK
**JOB DESCRIPTION: TOURISM AMBASSADOR**
**NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK**:
**Under the direction of the Recreation Manager or Tourism Coordinator, the Tourism Ambassador assists in providing**
**information to visitors about Dawson Creek, the Alaska Highway, British Columbia, and surrounding areas, as well as**
**other travel inquiries. This position performs regular administrative duties in the Visitor Centre gift shop and assists in**
**developing resources for visitors to stay in Dawson Creek. The Visitor Centre is a 7-day operation with shifts**
**scheduled Saturday through Friday accordingly.**
**EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED**:
1. Encourage visitors to explore and stay in Dawson Creek/region through products, services, attractions, and
activities.
2. Provide information to visitors and locals at the Visitor Centre utilizing brochures.
3. Ensure brochures are up-to-date and presentable.
4. Sell products in the gift shop using a recreation point of sales software.
5. Inventory stock.
6. Caravan presentations on the history of Dawson Creek and Alaska Highway, encouraging visitors to explore
Dawson Creek.
7. Attend Special Events in the mobile Visitor Centre.
8. Maintain and input statistics.
9. General cleaning duties in the Visitor Centre.
10. Perform administrative tasks such as internet research, phone inquiries, updating reference material and
preparing mail.
11. Opening and closing of the Visitor Centre.
12. Other related duties as required.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS**:
1. Valid BC Driver’s License
2. Minimum 17 years of age by hiring date.
3. Physical agility and ability to complete duties requiring physical effort.
4. Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members.
5. Compliance with and approval of a Criminal Record Search (including Vulnerable Sector).
6. The ability to perform the duties outlined in a safe manner following established Facility Procedures, Occupational,
Health & Safety Rules, and Violence in the Workplace policies and WorkSafe BC Regulations (i.e., WHMIS).
**DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS**:
1. Occupational First Aid Level 1
2. CPR C Certification
3. Knowledge of British Columbia and surrounding regions, with an emphasis on Dawson Creek, Northern British
Columbia region, and the Alaska Highway.
4. Fluency in a second language.
