- As a Leak Locator, you will be responsible for diagnosing and locating water leaks throughout the water distribution system, both public and private, including other municipalities surrounding Calgary. Primary duties include:
- Perform pre-trip vehicle inspection, schedule daily work considering emergencies, priorities and regularly scheduled surveys and drive to job sites.
- Collect information about water leaks or areas to be surveyed by reviewing section books, blueprints and online information and considering variables such as environment, type of pipe, groundwater vs City water and private or public property.
- Attend at the job site and identify the exact location and severity of a water leak including manually exposing valves and manholes, turning valves and hydrants, listening and looking for leaks, taking water samples and using leak detection equipment such as correlators, geophones, and metro
- tracing equipment.
- Conduct annual leak surveys and special projects.
- Perform planned and unplanned maintenance and operations activities on the drinking water system as required. (e.g., shutdowns and controls, return to service, system flushing, valve survey and water quality testing).
- Perform other duties such as inputting leak-related information (e.g., distance, type, and size of pipe), contacting Dispatch to initiate work orders for repairs, arranging water shut-off and completing paperwork (e.g., service leak reports).
**Qualifications**
- A High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) and Level 1 Water Distribution Certification.
- At least 4 years of related experience, of which 2 years must be specific to water distribution system in a water utility.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- A valid City of Calgary operator's permit will be considered an asset.
- Ability to use software and desktop or remote devices.
- Success in this position required interpersonal skills and adaptableness.
**Pre-employment Requirements**
- A security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
**Note**:This posting may be used to fill similar positions within the work unit.
- **Pre-employment Drug Test**: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
