**Summer Maintenace Labourer**

**Location**:Nekinan Property, Smoky Lake, AB

**Position Status**: Two (2) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Students (May-August)

**Key Responsibilities**
- Perform ground maintenance, including landscaping and clean up.
- General gardening, including weeding, watering, hauling dirt, and harvesting.
- Conduct small building maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with various office tasks, including moving shipments, organizing materials and supplies, and assisting with the operations of Nekinan.
- Assist with set-up, take-down, and facilitation of events.
- Appropriately use and wear required equipment, devices, and clothing in compliance with OHS.
- Report any issues or defective equipment.
- Adhere to WHMIS at all times.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist with administration of MNA Provincial events & programs.
- Other duties as required or assigned.

**Skills & Competencies**

- Ability to operate power and hand tools in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.

**Qualifications**
- Some knowledge of building maintenance and/or construction. Related education or training is an asset.
- Experience with power tools and lawn maintenance.
- 1-2 years of experience in maintenance or landscaping is preferred.
- Ability to lift 40-50 pounds.
- WHMIS and First Aid training.

**Other Requirements**
- Availability to work assigned shifts from Monday to Friday.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.
