- This position should appeal to either a newsroom veteran looking for a new challenge by putting her or his skills to work in a demanding environment, or to a young reporter eager to gain experience quickly.
- **Responsibilities**
- Reporting to the Managing Editor, you would:

File at least five news stories per week, as well as news briefs as required and at least one feature every two weeks.
- Provide or source two standalone photos for publication each week.
- Develop sources, generate new story ideas and participate in story meetings.
- Assist in broadening the editorial content of Nunatsiaq News to encourage a greater readership.
- Travel to Nunavut and Nunavik communities to report on special events as required.
- Attend after-hours meetings and events as required.
- Ensure that stories are filed on deadline and accompanied by a photo.
- Assist with proofreading dummy newspaper pages.
- Do other related duties as assigned by the editors.

**Qualifications**
- **Skills/Competencies**
- A journalism degree/diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalent storytelling or writing experience gained in other work or life experience would be considered.
- Strong interviewing, writing, reporting, photography and social media skills.
- Organizational skills and a proven track record of meeting deadlines and breaking your own stories.
- Ability to work independently, but also work well with others as part of a team.
- A driver's licence.

Experience in the following areas would definitely be assets:

Photography
- Good knowledge of Canadian Press style
- Use of social media
- Web-based content management systems
- Living or working in Canada’s North
- An understanding of northern life, culture, history, traditions and institutions
- The ability to speak and write an Inuit language
