Project Manager/estimator

**MAREX Constructors Ltd**. is an Abbotsford based civil construction firm that is looking to hire a **Project Manager/Estimator **in the area of Civil Construction (roadworks, earthworks and underground utilities). MAREX Constructors Ltd. is a privately-owned civil construction firm that has been serving the Fraser Valley since 1976.

**Job Summary**:
You will be responsible for preparing, coordinating and manager estimates: focusing on underground utilities, public, and private civil projects in the Lower Mainland.

This will involve, but not limited to, helping prepare tenders and bid forms, project costing, help with the dispatching of labour and/or subcontractors, project communication and documentation.

**Job Duties**:

- Ensuring bidding accuracy through all phases of the bidding process
- Attending site review meetings, effectively organize and communicate to ensure effective communication among all relevant stakeholders
- Prepare (discipline estimates by calculating) complete quantity takeoff based on scope of work
- Being a leader with oversight of the end-to-end estimating process
- Reviews proposal specifications, contract documents including general conditions, tender form, drawings, and required price breakdowns
- Review schedules of projects being estimated
- Reviews bonding & insurance requirements
- Identifies ambiguities and unique technical requirements of the bid
- Develops a bid preparation schedule identifying the tasks, assignments and deadlines
- Identifies potential bid opportunities from both public & private sectors
- Attends project pre-tender meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates when necessary
- Perform Risk and Contract Management responsibilities as required
- Evaluate proposed construction methodologies to determine the best solutions based on cost, quality, and availability of materials
- Review, prepare and submit Request For Quotation (RFQ)'s from vendors and subcontractors
- Consult with clients, vendors and other stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve potential issues
- Review and analyze actual project costing and production information against estimates, and develop historical databases
- Attends project pre-construction meetings
- Prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid
- Establish and review list of work to be performed by subcontractors
- Follow awarded contracts as assigned - may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits
- Advise on major changes in scope of work and monitor actual cost to estimated cost and ensure change orders are priced
- Search, analyze and communicate to the team options for the most effective means and methods of construction

**Job Requirements**:

- Expertise with cost estimating processes, and standards in all formats, including Lump Sum and Unit Rate contracts
- Ability to make decision in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete data and under tight deadlines and pressure
- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment types and different civil construction methods
- Knowledge and experience in developing labour, equipment, and other construction cost rates
- Strong coordination and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills and the desire to seek solutions
- Excellent knowledge of HCSS HeavyBid and Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, Project and Word.
- Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering
- Eligibility for registration as a P.Eng or AScT
- Minimum of 10+ years’ of civil construction experience, with at least 2 years as a Senior Estimator capacity
