**Description**:
Pewaseskwan in partnership with CANTRAIN is seeking a National Coordinator of Indigenous Engagement. CANTRAIN stands out by fully integrating modular, on-line training with experiential and engaged learning opportunities and expert mentorship. This distinctive approach goes beyond what is commonly found in existing clinical trial training programs. Engaged, experiential learning, informed by adult learning principles, combined with expert guidance from mentors who actively participate in the training process, greatly enhances skill development and professional competency. In addition, CANTRAIN’s modular training can be tailored for various types of learners and levels of experience and expertise. These stakeholders include coordinators, project managers, monitoring specialists, regulatory affairs experts, investigators, knowledge translation professionals, and patient partners, among others. As a result, CANTRAIN provides a unique training experience that combines the convenience of online resources with the benefits of personalized guidance from experienced mentors.

**Primary Purpose**:
The National Coordinator of Indigenous Engagement will oversee operations, planning, implementation, and evaluation of CANTRAIN Clinical Trials Training Program (CTTP) to First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. This includes evaluating and coordinating the existing and future program activities of CANTRAIN relating to Indigenous engagement, strengthening research capacity, adapting the program for expansion to Indigenous research centres, maintaining the program materials and e-learning assets, and developing strategies to maximize outreach to First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. The employee will report to the Executive Director of Pewaseskwan with day-to-day direction from the National Coordinator of Stream 4 for patients and community partners. This position is housed at the University of Saskatchewan and is overseen by Pewaseskwan (the Indigenous Wellness Research Group).

**Accountabilities**:

- Dedicated to incorporating Indigenous Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Access (EDIA/IDEA) into CANTRAIN CTTP.
- Engage with national public academic institutions and national Indigenous educators to offer and facilitate access to CANTRAIN platforms;
- Facilitate the on-boarding of all categories of trainees/mentees into CANTRAIN CTTPs, especially those from the Indigenous communities across Canada.
- Participate in the recruitment of Indigenous Mentors under the National Director, mentorships’ programs.
- Collaborate and exchange knowledge and best practices will other coordinators of CANTRAIN regarding Indigenous engagement.
- Lead the focus on research strengthening within community, especially working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities across Canada;
- Coordinate and contextualize approaches across Canada on clinical trials training needs from Indigenous perspectives.
- Align with the Indigenous Knowledge Holders Circle (IKHC) at the national level.
- Fully dedicate their productive time to strengthening ties across Canada, by working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities.
- Act as reporting liaison for CANTRAIN working group 10 on EDIA and Indigenous engagement;
- Assemble, nurture and support a national advisory circle of Indigenous Knowledge Holders with community and institutional knowledge of Indigenous health research across Canada
- Survey and collate existing health research training curricula, programs and modules that relate to Indigenous to develop CANTRAIN CTTP Curriculum, especially into Stream 4 for Patients and Community Partners
- Advise IKH circle and Pewaseskwan leads of survey findings, and lead discussions on training needs to support IHR programs related to supporting and improving Indigenous health research in Canada
- Train the research community on Indigenous engagement as well as training for Indigenous communities working with researchers
- Advise on where adaptations of existing curricula should be undertaken, and where gaps in training needs require additional developments
- Work with Pewaseskwan leads and IKH circle to find and exploit the resources needed to inform training resource developments
- Communicate with funding partners to create plans to address their specific needs in IHR training
