Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) - Behavioural Support (BSO)
**About Us**:
**Position Summary**:
The RPN will enhance the effective quality of nursing practice in keeping with the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and home Standards.
Possesses and maintains specialized qualifications to this position
Understands and upholds all rules and requirements under applicable legislation (including but not limited to the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Ontario Labour Relations Act, the Ontario Health and Safety Act, Long Term Care Homes Act)
**Some Major Responsibilities Include**:
- Works in a team environment within the guidelines of the Central East LHIN Behavioural Support Ontario Project to assist with coordinating the care and services for residents with responsive behaviours.
- Demonstrates knowledge in dementia care, delirium, mental health issues and the impact that it has on the resident’s quality of life, family members and care partners.
- Responsible for promoting and contributing to the development of a person-centred philosophy of care for residents exhibiting behavioural challenges and utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the resident, family, staff and care providers to ensure that a holistic plan of care is in place for the resident.
- Delivers person -centered care which recognizes both the uniqueness of each resident and an awareness of one’s own contribution to the relationship, including personal attributes, values, and action Uses an assessment tools based on best practices to conduct initial and ongoing assessments describing interventions with respect to the behaviours of the residents Works flexible hours to meet behavioural needs of the resident exhibiting responsive behaviours.
**Qualifications**:
- Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Experience and understanding of DOS, BAT, BSO tools.
- Knowledge of RAI-MDS is preferred
- Experience and understanding of non-pharmacological and therapeutic behavioral approaches
- Experience and understanding of pharmacological agents that are used to manage conditions that have behavioral components along the disease continuum
- Completion of certificate or training in geriatric care such as Dementia care, PIECES, Montessori methods, Gentle Persuasive Approach, U-First
- Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
**Salary**: $28.26-$29.77 per hour
