Fasd Key Support Worker

Job DescriptionThrough education, support, and advocacy, the FASD Key Support Worker works to enhance the stability of families with children and youth with FASD and similar neurological conditions.
**What you’ll be doing**:
- Provide support, education, and advocacy to families with children and youth with FASD and similar neurological conditions.
- Mentor families to facilitate an increase in their knowledge, skills, and confidence to become their own best advocates.
- Assist the family to select and access appropriate services by providing information on the range of available programs and services.
- Providing one-to-one support to families
- Create a safe, non-judgmental environment for families seeking support
- Identify and address the needs of all family members
- Facilitate the Intergenerational Grandparents Group
- Tracking statistics, prepare board reports, and fulfill other funding requirements in collaboration with community partners
- Manage a caseload of 25 families
- Other duties as required
**What you’ll need**:
- Undergraduate degree in health or human services or equivalent education and experience
- Knowledge of FASD as a brain-based physical disability
- Experience is using a cultural safety framework when working with Indigenous families and communities
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple community partners and service providers
- Proficiency in facilitating groups, workshops and presentations
- Experience and knowledge of generational trauma and trauma-informed practices
- Understanding of supporting families with grief and loss
- Familiarity of youth and women’s addiction issues and working with LGBTQ2S+ community
- Knowledge of the demographics and diverse families of the DTES, with experience in working and supporting children and families in this area. Lived experience is an asset.
- Understanding and ability to work within a harm reduction philosophy
- Experience conducting home visits and providing outreach services
- A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
- The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
