Head Basketball Coach

**Job Summary**

Free Play for Kids is seeking seasonal Head Basketball Coaches to lead our Wolves basketball teams in the 3x3 League. This role is ideal for experienced youth coaches, top-level players transitioning into coaching, or anyone passionate about basketball and youth development.

As a Head Basketball Coach, you will not only teach the fundamentals of basketball but also serve as a mentor, role model, and facilitator. You will guide youth athletes in developing skills, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship, all while creating an organized and fun game-day experience. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead practices, manage games, coordinate with officials, and ensure that every child feels supported, included, and empowered to grow both on and off the court.

You will work closely with our Program Manager and other coaches to build a positive environment where players of all abilities can grow, succeed, and love the game. Your commitment during the season is essential to fostering both individual and team success, while also contributing to a larger mission of using sport as a tool for social good.

**Education & Qualifications**
- Working towards or completed a degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sport and Recreation, Kinesiology, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Experience coaching basketball and/or extensive playing experience.
- Clear up-to-date criminal and vulnerable sector check.
- Standard First Aid Certification and CPR training, or the ability to obtain quickly.
- Valid certification in coaching is considered an asset.
- Experience with technology such as Google Meet and Connecteam apps is considered an asset.

**Responsibilities**
- Plan and lead structured practices for youth aged 12-16, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and fun.
- Coach and mentor players during games and practices, fostering safe, inclusive, and positive spaces.
- Facilitate game-day operations, including scorekeeping, court management, and communication with officials.
- Conduct informal skills assessments and provide guidance to players.
- Support participant registration, communication, and program logistics as needed.
- Assist the Program Manager with community partnerships, equipment management, and player recruitment.
- Model organizational values and serve as a mentor and role model for youth.
- Complete the required Free Play training, including Safe Sport and Understanding the Two courses.

**Position Conditions**
- This is a seasonal position of approximately 3 - 8 hours per week.
- Practice Schedule
- Once a week at Central Lions from 4:30-6:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (TBD).
- Game Schedule
- Fridays, 6:00-8:00 PM at Legacy Athletics
- On the following dates: October 3, 10, 17, 24, November 7, 14, 28.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 3 - 8 per week
