Job Title: Youth Program Facilitator
Job Status: Full-time, Contract (12 months, with possible extension)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Hourly Rate: $23.00

JHS Peterborough has provided programs addressing crime & its causes in our area for over 65 years. We practice diverse approaches to crime prevention, intervention, and reintegration through a restorative lens. We know that positive change doesn’t happen in a punitive or judgmental environment.
As the Youth Program Facilitator, you will support young people who are involved or at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system. Youth Program Facilitators provides programming to youth and young adult clients, across the areas of justice, education, employment, and mentorship. In addition to programming, you will maintain a caseload of clients, justice-involved and self-referred, which will require liaising with community partners and natural supports.
**Responsibilities**:
- Facilitate psychoeducational programming for youth and young adults, across a variety of areas, including but not limited to, justice, healthy relationships, conflict management, and well-being.
- Engage in outreach and support sessions to assist youth and young adult clients in achieving their immediate and long-term goals to change behaviours, better integrate with the community, and develop practical skills for personal success and well
- being.
- Foster a warm, welcoming, restorative, anti-oppressive, trauma/resilience informed space for youth.
- Take a strength-based approach with each client and adapt programming to their unique needs and interests.
- Collaborate with Youth and Community Services team to provide effective program delivery and client supports.
- Consult regularly with managers about ethical dilemmas, critical incidents, and availability/eligibility criteria for community resources.
- Attend community meetings as required to promote programs and services, and participate in community-based committtees as appropriate.
- Maintain program statistics, and databases, and assist with program expense tracking and report preparation
- Stay informed of issues and best practices in the areas of youth work, restorative justice, and mental health.
- Ensure program delivery protects client, volunteer, and community safety.
- Adhere to standard professional guidelines and agency protocols on confidentiality and ethics.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by your manager to improve or enhance the delivery of services, and to meet operational needs.
Job Specifications
Education, Training, and Professional Experience
- College diploma and/or University degree or equivalent in Social Services, Psychology,
- Criminology, Community and Justice Services or similar
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience relevant to social and/or justice services, preferably with youth
- Experience with program delivery, facilitation, and interviewing and counselling an asset
- Relevant training certificates an asset (i.e. ASSIST/Safe Talk, Trauma-Informed Care, Restorative Conference Training)
- Knowledge of local community resources and partner agencies
- Knowledge of the structure of the Justice System in its functions, procedures, roles of key players, impact on the community, and relevant legislation (Youth Criminal Justice Act)
- Knowledge of sentencing principles, alternative measures, and restorative justice principles
- Standard First-Aid and CPR Level C

Working Conditions, Hours, and Transportation
- This position is an on site position, based out of our 70 Hunter St. West office and also working in community settings
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and occassional weekends
- Must have Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G-class) and reliable access to a car
