Established through The Registered Nurses Act, 1988 and driven by values that focus on the protection of the people of Saskatchewan, the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) is the profession-led regulatory body for the province’s 13,300 Registered Nurses (RN), Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Registered Nurses with Additional Authorized Practice [RN(AAP)]. The CRNS sets high standards for nursing education, practice and registration including initial and ongoing licensure requirements, practice standards, approval of nursing programs, continuing competence requirements and competence assurance mechanisms such as complaints investigation and the discipline process.

**Manager, Communications and Public Relations**

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services and Communications, the Manager, Communications and Public Relations will support the execution of the CRNS’s communications and public engagement strategy.

The Manager, Communications and Public Relations coordinates the planning and delivery of internal and external communications activities. This position carves out new pathways and relationships to share CRNS messaging and content among diverse audiences, through engaging the media, online communities, third party organizations, as well as existing stakeholders and key partners. Manages and improves all communications flows, within and outside of the organization, responsible for promoting a positive public image of the CRNS, handling public relations and information output, facilitating media requests and social media channels, and effectively communicating via the multiple publication outlets.

The Manager is responsible for the operations of the Communications team, including coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the communications team

**Core Competencies**:

- Contribute to the recruitment of communications staff.
- Mentor and develop staff using supportive and collaborative approaches.
- Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance management reviews.
- Contribute to, develop, revise, implement all policies related to communications and public relations.
- Support the Director, Corporate Services and Communications as required.
- Support the CRNS social media presence.
- Schedule relevant and engaging content on the appropriate social media channels.
- Work with relevant departments within the CRNS to develop content for the social media channels, including the creation of video scripts and overseeing the processes of capturing photos and designing graphics as needed.
- Create, copyedit, proofread and review internal and external communications.
- Interview the appropriate parties for News Bulletin and other publication articles, including members, industry experts, nursing advisors and Council members, public representatives and CRNS staff.
- Create presentations and speeches for Council President, Executive Director, and other CRNS staff.
- Develop, create and maintain communications strategies, plans, vehicles.
- Lead all public engagement activities for the organization.
- Staff support for Committees.

**Education/Experience**:

- An undergraduate degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Policy, Business Administration, or other related disciplines.
- 5+ years of experience in communications
- 3+ years in management, building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications specialists.
- 5+ years of experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, and other print publications and directories.
- Experience in media relations and government relations.
- Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating complex and comprehensive communication strategies (including recent work related to social media) required.
- Experience in working with community partners (e.g. health promotion groups, other health care organizations) preferred.
