The Metallurgy team provides technical support to custom oriented manufacturing in aspects of forging, heat treatment and testing processes of diverse shapes and grades of steel, aluminum and Ni based materials at both Brantford and Paris plants. The Metallurgy team provides significant support to QA, Process Engineering and Sales in addition to the Manufacturing (Mfg) team.

**Responsibilities**:
Metallurgy oversight is typically provided in the following areas:

- Chemistries_
- Provide guidance on the purchasing of appropriate material both in optimized chemistries, inventory applicability along with quality.
- Supplier interaction in regards to material issues.
- Forge_
- Provide guidance for forge instructions.
- Clarify any preheat and post forge dispositions for Mfg and adjust as necessary and within specification limits to accommodate Mfg schedules.
- Participate in witnesses and investigations and help identify improvement opportunities
- Heat Treatment_
- Develop and review heat treatment for process optimization and minimization of rework.
- Witness quenches and coach heat treaters on loading optimization.
- Review monthly rework and trend analysis with intention to improve processes and lower costs.
- Testing_
- Technical support to QA Dept. in understanding results. Interact with testing labs as necessary for clarity.
- Provide support to Mfg for positive recall assessments.
- Provide direction to the saw operators for clarification of test requirements.
- Liaison with Non-Destructive Testing Dept as needed.
- Heat stability testing report review and over check.
- Technical Review of Processes_
- Update process instructions (MET templates) with identified improvements.
- Shop Order overcheck for technical and process content as required.
- Regular interaction with Process Engineering for metallurgical support.
- Generation of MITP”s or MPP’s for customer approvals.
- Customer Interaction_
- Development work with customers.
- Clarification of customer requirements.
- Resolution of shipped product technical issues.
- General_
- Non-Conformance Reports - metallurgical investigation support for NCR’s.
- Look for cost opportunities and/or issues to be brought to PEG’s or Mfg’s attention.
- Enforce all shop order requirements.
- Metallurgical or other projects as assigned.

**Experience**:

- Previous industrial or manufacturing experience in a custom product environment is required.
- A high-energy, result-oriented team player.
- Engineering designation, Metallurgical or Materials.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and capability of managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a custom oriented non-volume manufacturing process flow.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Computer literate and familiar with contemporary software.
- Familiarity with nuclear and/or aerospace quality systems and paperwork would be an asset.
- Familiarity with ASTM, ASME and AMS specifications would be an asset.
- Familiarity with Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant testing would be an asset.

Pay: $65,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
