**Job Summary**
- Dalhousie University’s Office of Advancement is responsible for all fundraising and alumni engagement activities at the institution. A team of over 100 advancement professionals cultivate relationships with alumni and friends of the university and work with donors to help them achieve personal fulfilment through philanthropic investment. Dalhousie donors commit in aggregate over $70 million each year in the interest of supporting student success, scientific research, and community impact. Reporting to the Director, Advancement Communications, the Communications Manager, Digital & Social Media is responsible for ensuring that communications strategically support the goals and objectives of the Office of Advancement and its _Engagement Development Model. _They must be a skilled communicator to not only be able to confidently speak to a global audience, following Dalhousie’s guidelines, but also to advise communicators across the university, embedded in faculties and units, to support and enhance the work that is being done centrally.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Oversees how Advancement’s digital platforms (e.g., social, web, newsletter) interconnect and support one another as part of an integrated suite of channels to further Advancement’s goals. Advises and collaborates with communicators throughout the faculties and units for alignment to support Advancement Communications.
- Creates and strategically schedules compelling content that considers Dal Advancement’s tone and voice while being platform appropriate; monitors and reports on performance of same.
- In agreement with the co-created over-arching social media strategy, creates plans for a myriad of individual campaigns, programs and initiatives. Some of these will be engagement opportunities where Dal invites alumni and friends to connect, learn, volunteer and celebrate. Others will be fundraising campaigns.
- Understands segmentation and develops campaigns that use a variety of mediums to engage our constituents. This requires trend-spotting and being proficient in a variety of platforms as well as learning emerging platforms and having the ability to make decisions on which platforms and approaches are best for which segment and stage of a campaign. Advises around opportunities for paid social promotions.
- Creates and manages a content calendar to proactively plan and schedule daily, where possible, content across digital channels, while reactively being flexible, open and excited about unplanned content creation opportunities which are often identified through ongoing social scanning and occasionally present outside office hours.
- Manages social media monitoring, listening and measurement. Prepares quarterly social media reports that evaluate channel growth, successes, weaknesses or missed opportunities, and any surprises.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in a related field, plus five years’ relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
- Experience in communications planning and the creation and implementation of communications/social media plans.
- Excellent written, verbal, editing, interpersonal, management and organizational skills.
- Extensive knowledge of a variety of social media platforms and proof of active and engaging use.
- The ability to create a content calendar that’s proactive, reactive and aligned with other units’ content strategies is vital to this role.
