**SUMMARY**:
Aquilini Development and Construction is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to join our growing team. This position is based at one of our residential development locations in the Tsawwassen area.

The primary mandate of the CSO is to represent our safety culture and to manage and enforce all aspects of the site-specific policies, procedures and to ensure all legislative and contractual safety requirements are being met.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Liaise with project management team to verify that safe systems for the work / tasks are in operation and that all legislative and contractual environmental and safety requirements are being observed and adhered to
- Provide first aid services to injured workers and maintain first aid locations
- Inspect and monitor fall protection equipment
- Conduct regular site inspections to examine site activities and confirm work processes follow legislative and contractual environmental health and safety requirements
- Ensure corrective and preventive actions are established and implemented
- Review the overall safety and environmental performance of subcontractors and identifies improvement opportunities
- Conduct incident investigations to identify causes and implement corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
- Ensure that an emergency response plan is developed, implemented, maintained and reviewed
- Ensure the impacts and risks related to health, safety and environment for projects are anticipated and controlled
- Participate, lead and schedule Joint Occupational health and Safety Committee meetings and assist with follow-up and corrective actions, reporting & effective communication
- Conduct daily safety meetings with site supervision and sub-contractors
- Conduct health and safety site orientations

**REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS**:

- 3-5 years of experience working in a construction environment
- CSO Designation
- Fall protection training
- WHMIS
- Current Occupational First Aid Level 2 or 3
- Sound knowledge of WorkSafeBC Act, Regulations and Standards
- Knowledge and practical experience in incident investigation
- Demonstrated experience creating procedures, and the ability to evaluate and improve processes and safe work procedures
- Experience delivering safety orientations and tool-box talks to individuals & groups.
- Proven ability to design, implement and evaluate EHS programs & policies and enforce standards and procedures
- Solid documentation, report and presentation writing skills; EHS programs, procedures, policies, inspection reports, meeting minutes etc
- Exceptional communication & interpersonal skills (oral and written)
- Ability to foster strong relationship building skills
- Strong independent work ethic with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines and communicate effectively with internal teams
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
- OHS Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree (College or University) considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point
