WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units, to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where it makes sense. The Network Operations Team’s primary responsibility is ensuring resilient and consistent access to the Western data network which provides computer connectivity, Internet access, telecommunications, and wireless services to campus. Members of this team are responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of the network equipment supporting these communication infrastructures. These activities include; capacity planning, the creation and review of network disaster recovery plans, proactively monitoring network statistics to determine performance and stability baselines, and responding to issues that adversely affect the stability of these services. **Responsibilities**: **Qualifications**: **Education**: - College Diploma in an information technology field or a University Degree with at least a minor in Computer Science - University Degree majoring in an Information Technology field (such as Computer Science or Engineering) preferred - Certification related to Advanced Network Design Curriculum and/or course work in programming is preferred - Certifications in, or working towards, project management would be considered an asset **Experience**: - 5 years’ experience working with networking technology, including switches, routers and network monitoring/analysis tools - Experience in electronics, system programming and communications technologies is preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in networking protocols, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and related communications technologies - Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as Ansible and GitLab - Strong mix of programming and scripting skills, with emphasis on Python - Proficiency in network design and architecture - Familiarity with various operating system environments - Skills in cloud computing, network security, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), data modeling, and AI-driven networking - Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, and resolve technical issues Ability to re-evaluate procedures and suggest creative improvements - Commitment to ongoing learning and staying current with technological developments - Project leadership capability for small to medium network projects - Ability to share expertise with other Network Analysts to enhance team outcomes - Proficient in technical documentation to keep materials current and aligned with service changes and customer feedback - Strong customer service skills to handle inquiries and resolve issues professionally and promptly - Demonstrated communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical users - Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and adapt quickly to emerging needs - Attention to detail when executing and validating routine tasks - Initiative to ensure outcomes meet internal and external customer requirements - Ability to work independently and collaboratively, including off-hours when required - Ability to make day-to-day decisions based on established guidelines - Demonstrates awareness of client needs and industry trends when explaining actions taken - Proven ability to interact with others in a professional, respectful, and diplomatic manner - Ability to handle frequent interruptions while maintaining productivity - Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for process improvement and offer creative solutions - Ability to explain the immediate context of a situation, ask follow-up questions, and seek advice when warranted **Why Western?**: Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications.
