**Position Summary**
Seabird Island is committed to supporting student success and leadership development within a culturally safe

Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and ways of being. We are seeking a Vice Principal to support our leadership team in creating an educational setting grounded in excellence, cultural safety, and studentachievement.
Under the direction of the School Principal, the Vice Principal will assist in the administration, supervision, and
operation of Lalme’ Iwesawtexw Community School. This includes implementing the B.C. curriculum, supporting teaching staff, fostering student success, and reinforcing core values such as self-reliance, generosity, honesty, adaptability, and respect. The Vice Principal will also play an active role in community events and serve as a role model for staff and students.
**This is a term contract with a start date of August 2025 ending on June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension.**
**What you’ll do**
- Assist in planning and organizing curriculum delivery and educational goals.
- Support school-wide transitions and learning continuity across grade levels.
- Lead and participate in the hiring, evaluation, mentoring, and retention of school staff in accordance with Seabird Island Human Resource policies.
- Administer and ensure compliance with the BC School Act, Independent School Act, and relevant school policies.
- Conduct performance evaluations and goal-setting with staff in cooperation with the Principal.
- Provide classroom instruction as needed and maintain a high standard of teaching competency.
- Guide and support teachers through regular observations, mentorship, and problem-solving.
- Ensure all educational programs and curriculum are effectively implemented.
- Promote school values and participate actively in community and cultural events, including the Seabird Island Annual Festival.
- Encourage student engagement, self-motivation, and accountability in both academic and life skills programs.
- Maintain strong communication and positive relationships with parents, guardians, and the wider community.
- Oversee use and deliverables related to the MyEducation BC platform (MyED), including report card reviews and distribution.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive school culture that promotes creativity, collaboration, and student wellbeing.
**Other Duties**
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the school community and uphold our shared values.
**What you'll bring**
**Qualifications**:
- A Bachelor’s degree in education is required. We also recognize and value cultural knowledge and experience gained through other forms of education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Master’s degree in education or related field is considered an asset.
- Must be a certified BC Teacher in good standing with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
- 5-7 years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience in an independent, First Nations, or similar educational setting.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire academic excellence and serve as a positive role model for staff and students.
- Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and professionalism.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions, particularly of Stó:lō peoples, or a willingness to learn.
**Additional Requirements**:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset.
**Preferred**:
- Lived experience as a member of a First Nations community.
- Knowledge and understanding of Seabird Island’s culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics.
- Commitment to upholding First Nations governance, traditions, and community priorities.
- Ability to respond quickly and professionally to community or colleague needs and inquiries.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
**Cultural Competency**:
- Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues.
- Understanding of intergenerational trauma and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and communities.
