- _About The Role_

RaY Optional Occupancy Mentorship (ROOM), is a supportive transitional housing program under the housing department. The ROOM Case Manager provides effective case management to youth ages 17-21 years old that have ‘Extensions of Care’ from Child and Family Services. The ROOM Case Manager maintains a caseload with key components focused on independency and successful tenancy. The ROOM Case Manager will life map and set goals with youth and ensure supports are provided at all times, this will require on-call, evenings and weekend availability. RaY is a fast-paced environment which depends on reliable, open-minded, flexible and team oriented individuals _to provide youth with what they need, on their terms, to better their lives._

**Education and Experience**:

- Experience working within the not-for-profit sector
- Post-secondary education in community development, human services or social services (BA/BSW/B.Ed or equivalent preferred) or acceptable equivalent and related experience
- Preferred certification: Level C-CPR, NVCI, ASIST, Stages of Change/Motivational Interviewing
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a similar role
- Valid driver’s license
- Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Check and Driver’s Abstract
- Proficiency in MS Office, Google Products and general comfort with technology

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
Required Assets:

- Creative problem solving and strong advocacy skills
- Experience working with vulnerable youth or other at-risk populations
- Strong working knowledge of harm reduction principles
- Responsible, organized, and detail oriented
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills
- Cultural competency skills, knowledge, experience, and awareness
- Capacity to build and maintain strong relationship with partner agencies, service providers and landlords
- Ability to function independently while also working as part of a frontline team
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with mínimal supervision
- Must have a familiarity of resources that are available to youth in Winnipeg; specifically housing and social services.
- **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**_
The responsibilities of the ROOM Case Manager include, but are not limited to the following:
Case Management and Coordination
- Assist youth in setting and meeting goals through Life Mapping exercises
- Develop Coordinate Case Plans in collaboration with Child and Family Services
- Meet with participants on a weekly basis (minimum) to monitor progress
- Conduct regular home visits
- Connect participants to services needed (internal or external referrals) to reach the client’s goal
- Provide tenant and eviction prevention services
- Provide re-housing assistance, if required
- Maintain good working relationships with Manitoba Housing
- Connect participants to income supports including EIA, pre-employment supports, and bridging to the labour market
- Provide supports to improve client’s social integration, such as family reconnections if safe and feasible
- Provide culturally relevant responses to help Indigenous participants
- Connect participants to education and educational support services
- Conduct one-on-one Life Skills development (e.g. budgeting, resume development, cooking)
- Assist in preparing units for you including setting up, and move in/outs
- Collaborate with the Life Skills Coordinator and other RaY staff to organize workshops for youth
- Support drop-in and other RaY programming as requested

Youth Care
- To have a keen awareness of internal and external resources, such as government systems and mechanisms experienced for participants and an ability to establish interim resources where gaps exist.
- The ability to build trusting relationships with participants in a non-judgmental and non
- threatening basis, in alignment with RaY values and principles.
- To impart information and direction that will empower participants to make informed decisions in the hopes of improving their quality of life.
