**Financial Controller**

Established in 1837, **the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS)** is the oldest yacht club in the Americas, home to close to 800 members from Canada, the United States and beyond. In addition to highly successful on-water programs, the Squadron has extensive facilities and a vibrant social program to ensure a wonderful, year-round experience for all members and guests. A rare opportunity exists for an experienced accounting professional to join our team.

Working closely with the General Manager and the Board, you will be responsible for all aspects of financial management for the RNSYS, including accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budgeting and forecast preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. This position also plays a key role in the development of commercial strategies for the RNSYS.

With direct contact to our membership, you will project and maintain a warm, welcoming feel at the Club at all times, serving as an example of the hospitality our members should expect on every visit.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Overall technical accounting with respect to monthly internal and yearly external reporting as per Canadian GAAP
- Oversight over accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Turning data and observations into reports for the GM, Board of Management, Departmental Vice Commodores and Managers, committee chairs and other external stakeholders
- Innovate processes to maximize efficient use of capacity and increase timeliness of information
- Oversee design and monitoring of internal controls that affect any aspect of financial reporting
- Facilitate and ensure HST, NPO and T3 returns as well as audited financials statements are reported according to requirements
- Create an environment of internal control over financial reporting and aspects of the club that increase exposure to risk
- Continuously monitor and evaluate changes in accounting standards, government regulations or situational circumstances and create policy for compliance
- Effectively manage all budgeting and auditing processes and timelines
- Onboard new staff into ADP, Jonas Club Management Software and other benefits
- Source corrections to data to complete biweekly payroll
- Hire, onboard, train and manage Finance Department staff
- Perform all work activities safely and in accordance with OH&S legislation, RNSYS Health and Safety policy and Finance Department safe operating procedures
- Liaise with and provide regular reporting information to Vice Commodore (VC) Finance and Finance Committee
- Provide reporting support and information to other departments, VCs and committees as needed

**Ideal Attributes**

To qualify for this position, you will have at least 3 years experience in a similar role and 5+ years experience in an overall combined accounting and finance position. A thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures is required with experience creating financial statements, general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process. Excellent accounting software user, Microsoft Excel and administration skills are required with a university degree in accounting.

A CPA designation while not required would be considered an asset.

Experience in a private member club environment or a mixed business with multiple revenue streams and/or preparing audited statements would be considered assets.

**Salary**: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
