Highview Residences, London is a small, but very special care home for people with dementia and we are currently looking to hire a very special Part-Time Cook in a unionized position. Our home is set up in the style of a cottage. In a kitchen similar to the one you have at home, start to finish, you’ll be preparing beautiful, home style lunches, dinners and snacks for our residents.

Enjoy cooking in a day position, 9:30am-5:30pm.

**Responsibilities**:

- Follows proper food handling and storage techniques.
- Knowledgeable preparation of all menu items for meals, ensuring quality in regards to taste, presentation, specialty diets, and texture modification for resident health and safety.
- Substitutes food items with available stock when necessary.
- Meet the time schedule for meals and snack times.
- Monitors the quality of food supplies being delivered and organizes stocks in accordance with FIFO principles; monitoring expiration dates.
- Keeps work area clean, sanitary and uncluttered.
- Follows all Policies and Procedures as well as, written job routines and duties as established by Highview.
- Treats Residents, visitors and staff with respect at all times.
- Ability to adapt to frequently changing and challenging situations with resilience, good time management, ability to prioritize, and multi-task.

**Qualifications**:

- Effective English oral and written communication skills.
- Minimum 2 year cooking experience or 1 year culinary school.
- Experience and willingness to work in a shared space.
- Experience working with Dementia Residents or in retirement or long term care a definite plus.
- Baking experience a plus.
- Food Handler’s Certificate.
- Must be able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (dated within 6 months).
- Must be able to provide a two-step TB skin test (per Health Unit Guidelines).
- Current CPR and First Aid Certifications are required prior to start.
- Reliable and able to work with Residents and others in a team atmosphere.
- Must be able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand/walk for the majority of the shift.

**Job Type**: Part-time (1)/ Casual (1)

Part time: Every other weekend

Casual: As needed

**Salary**: Starting $19.71 per hour, $20.07 after probation.
