**Schedule**: Regular full-time hours are 32 hours per week - Monday to Thursday, 8 hours per day including a one-hour paid lunch break.

Reporting to the Director of Lands and Natural Resources, the Maintenance Lead Hand leads the maintenance team and sets the daily schedule for the maintenance staff. Responsibilities include maintaining a work-order system and appropriately addressing any work-order requests, ensuring that the maintenance team have the appropriate tools, PPE, and training to complete their work in a safe manner, and ensuring that all maintenance tasks are completed on time following a set budget.
**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Housing Maintenance**
- Coordinates and leads routine maintenance on Nation-owned homes
- Coordinates and leads regular housing inspections for Nation-owned homes
- Completes inspections and addresses issues on homes in preparation for inclement weather (floods, freezing, etc.)
- Responds to urgent housing maintenance issues that may occur outside of business hours
**Grounds Maintenance**
- Coordinates and leads on-reserve grounds maintenance including grass cutting, landscaping, plant removal, etc.
**Public Works**
- Monitors and maintains the Nation’s water and wastewater infrastructure in alignment with
**EOCP requirements**
- Coordinates community garbage and refuse pickup including an annual spring cleanup event
**Office and General Maintenance**
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees;
- Interacts courteously with community members and the public;
- Coordinates the completion of all regular maintenance tasks, including creating recurring checklists and reporting the status of these to the Director of Lands and Natural Resources;
- Coordinates maintenance of Nation assets in alignment with the Nation’s asset-management plan
- Establishes and maintains an effective work-order system for staff and community members to submit maintenance requests
- Coordinates the arrangement of furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for special events
- Sets the schedule for and delegates tasks to the maintenance team
**Safety Management**
- Follows all established safety protocols and ensures that work is completed in accordance to policies, procedures, and record keeping requirements.
- Wears appropriate PPE for the work being performed.
- Ensures that the other members of the maintenance team are following safety protocols while carrying out their duties;
**Departmental Collaboration**
- Supports projects with various departments within the Nation as required
- Assists skilled maintenance workers/contractors with projects (e.g. transporting and/or securing materials, completing specific tasks, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects in a safe, timely and efficient manner;
- Operates the Nation’s 15+ passenger buses to support programs as needed
**Management Team**
- As a member of the Management Team, serves as a role model of Esquimalt Nation’s core competencies and guiding principles.
- Works with Management Team to develop and implement operational work plans to support the strategic direction set by Chief and Council.
- In conjunction with Finance, develops and monitors budgets for department.
- Ensures emergency management, preparedness planning and/or pandemic planning is in place and well communicated for the community served.
Other related duties as required.
**TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE**
High school education plus five years of relevant experience in building and property maintenance including 2 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- WHMIS Certification (or willingness to attain)
- Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License (or willingness to attain)
- EOCP Small Water Operator certification (or willingness to attain)
- EOCP Small Wastewater Operator certification (or willingness to attain)
- Standard First Aid certification (or willingness to attain)
- Chainsaw operator certification an asset
- Forklift operator certification an asset
- Building maintenance worker certification an asset
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
- Physically capable of performing listed duties
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to work under limited supervision
- Ability to stand and/or crouch for periods of time
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 70% walking, and 30% sitting;
- Working conditions contain moderate risks which require planned safety precautions for limited periods of time;
