**Role**
The Driver Trainer will be responsible for ensuring that all professional drivers are trained, evaluated, and coached to drive to company standards, ensuring accordance with the MELT provincial requirements and federal legislation. This position will be a 1 Year temporary contract focusing on training in the evenings and on weekends, with a minimum of 30 hours per week.
**Responsibilities**
- Train Class 5 professionals to achieve their class 1 MELT Licenses.
- Conduct driver evaluations and Pre-Hire Drives on all transportation professionals.
- Provide coaching and training when required.
- Conduct continuous improvement of all transportation training related programs.
- Promote all Company and governmental transportation policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintain a detailed knowledge of Transport Canada, BC/AB/SK transportation legislation.
- Ensure workers are compliant in the safe use/operations of transportation equipment, practices, and procedures.
- Review and coach pre and post trip inspections and identify any notables that need action.
- Coordinate and plan for daily road instruction, insuring proper utilization of equipment.
- Present instruction in a professional, timely and accurate manner consistent with STEP policies and procedures.
- Provide and review accurate records of evaluations and training with professionals and follow up to ensure that professionals are completing their training in a timely manner.
- Lead, coach and mentor all practices around road safety, laws & legislation.
- Follow all STEP JSA's and ability to alter as job scope changes.
- Conduct all duties with a safe mindset and a personal and professional commitment to STEP's core values.
- Identify hazards or potential hazards in all workplaces.
- Responsible for maintaining the housekeeping standards at a very high level.
- Be aware of and participate in the execution of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and safety meetings.
- Maintain a safe work area or job site by following company's policies, practices, and procedures.
**Qualifications**
- MELT Class 1 Instructor
- Detailed Knowledge of Transport Canada, Alberta/Saskatchewan/British Columbia transportation legislation (regulations, permits, pre-trip inspections)
- Proven coaching, mentoring, and corrective action skills
- Computer Skills (working knowledge of MS Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
- Minimum 10 Years’ experience in the transportation industry
