The Community Liaison Worker works within a collaborative team to provide meaningful and relevant services within a feminist framework that includes a working knowledge of the dynamics and effects of trauma and oppression. They act
as a resource to staff and clients and is responsible for providing a full range of services which includes building and strengthening community relationships, supporting Community Shelter Support Workers and Community Support Workers and developing, facilitating and evaluating shelter groups and workshops
**ABOUT YWCA TORONTO - 1**st** STOP WOODLAWN**
This program provides up to 62 shelter beds for homeless youth (16-24yrs) and adult (25 and older) women and gender diverse participants. This program operates as part of a congregate living site which includes 72 units of permanent housing.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- In conjunction with the CSSW and CSW staff develops workshops that educate tenants and residents about their rights and responsibilities in relation to their tenancy/stay at Woodlawn;
- Supports the establishment of community norms and practices in addressing conflicts in the Woodlawn Community;
- Through community engagement, promotes inclusion, participation and creativity, and builds a safe community where well-being and shared values are evident by providing connection within the Woodlawn community and in the outside community;
- Liaises with outside community members to investigate and resolve any complaints and concerns that may arise in consultation with the Manager;
- Builds and nurtures partnerships with outside agencies and services with the intention to gather and expand participant and staff access to resources and programming that reduce participant isolation and diversifies connections to available services in the community;
- In partnership with shelter and housing staff and other YWCA departments, coordinates and supports community volunteer efforts at the shelter, answering inquiries about volunteer availability and donations and communicates donation needs;
- Promotes skillful problem-solving and conflict resolution by using mediation and counseling skills to maintain the co-operative, supportive and productive environment;
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- 3 to 5 years experience working in a diverse, direct service setting for participants that range from youth to seniors who have experienced impacts of poverty, homelessness/under-housing violence/trauma, mental health/substance use or concurrent disorders and other sources of marginalization or oppression;
- Completion of workshops and courses pertaining to overdose awareness, mental illness, trauma, harm reduction, crisis de-escalation and anti-oppressive practice;
- Demonstrated experience in cultivating leadership within groups and developing and evaluating dynamic and innovative programming;
- Completion of Toronto Hostel’s Training Certificate (T.H.T.C.) or equivalent;
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and supports focused on mental health and group support;
- In-depth knowledge of the dynamics of gender-based violence and trauma within an anti-oppression framework;
- Experience delivering culturally sensitive services in a multicultural environment;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Life Skills Certificate and a certificate in trauma counselling would be an asset
- Knowledge of a second language and/or culture would be an asset**.**
