**Position Summary, Duties and Responsibilities**
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Indigenous Liaison/Addictions Worker is responsible for providing culturally based programming and activities for clients of both youth and adult recovery sites. The Indigenous Liaison will develop connection and communication with clients bands of origin ensuring that their culture and traditions are represented.
The Indigenous Liaison will collaborate with the Clinical Manager to align cultural activities with the weekly programming. This will include outings, activities and teachings which reflect and support the program in place.
As Indigenous Liaison and Addictions Worker, you will engage with clients within your scope of practice ensuring practice standards are met. The Indigenous Liaison will collaborate in the development of Policy and Procedure, protocols and cultural programming. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to the provision of exceptional treatment services to individuals recovering from substance misuse.
This position is responsible for the duties listed below in the areas of**:Cultural Programming, Client Centered Care, Facility Care and Management, Team Building and Leadership.**
**Client Centered Care and Facility Care and Management, Team Building and Leadership**
- Collaborate with team regarding new clients who identify as Indigenous
- Serve as a bridge between A New Tomorrow and Secwepemc promoting relationship building
- Encourage non Indigenous clients to participate in cultural programming
- Confer with clients regarding their interests and needs related to Indigenous culture and traditions
- Connect with elders and others within the Secwepemc community to provide a range of instructional, spiritual and traditional teachings to both youth and adult clients
- Coordinate with the Addictions Workers and Nursing staff on shift to ensure they are cognizant of planned cultural activities.
- Promote a client centered, strengths based and trauma informed holistic approach to recovery
- Be knowledgeable of client care plans, Policy and Procedure, protocols and daily routine and expectation and collaborate with co-workers in completing tasks
- Be knowledgeable of medications prescribed to clients including contraindications and side effects and communicate same to co-workers
- Review memos and Communication Book for current information and concerns
- Ensure appropriate specialized care is being implemented as per care plans
- Participate in any assessments in the best interest of the client
- Ensure to provide detailed client documentation in accordance with standards including licensing and Assisted Living Registry
- Make certain commitment to confidentiality is maintained utilizing guidelines of the Personal Information Act of BC
- Participate as requested in client centered team meetings throughout the phases of treatment and provide insight and collaboration
- Confer with clients regarding their interests and needs related to Indigenous culture and traditions
- Ensure interaction with service users and fellow team members are appropriate and sensitive to LGBTQ2+, cultural, racial, religious, and other minorities
- Provide support and advocacy to client during high conflict situations
- Build trust and open communication with team members, engage in innovative and creative strategies for clients and support team members to deliver exceptional treatment services
- Support and encourage clients to take part in recreational activities and curriculum as it related to their recovery
- Support clients to utilize clinical services
- Promote culturally sensitive programming and practices
- Prepare meals and snacks as required
- Take part in maintaining cleanliness of the facility and grounds in accordance with Health & Safety standards
- Ensure that appropriate and required safety measures are in place and bring any safety hazards or concerns to Operations Manager and/or Youth Facility Manager in a timely manner
- Take part in safety drills and facility inspections as required
- Ensure appropriate staff/client ratio and bring concerns to Management when recognized
**Reporting**
- Participate in regular consistent meeting attendance with Operations Manager and/or Youth Centre Manager identifying areas of personal/team and organizational success, areas of need, dynamics and trends that are or may impact service delivery
- Be open and receptive to clinical supervision
- Provide briefing notes as necessary for critical incidents collaborating with team to determine authorship ensuring that incident reports follow policy and related legislation
- Ensure the completion of all daily charting including: critical incidents, EMAR, Meds/cash counts, progress notes, communication and daily checklists as required
- Be open and receptive to need for reflection, debriefing and processing of distressing events and/or vicarious trauma
