**About The North Grove**:
The North Grove team is made up of 29 staff and over 170 community volunteers. Collaboration, creativity, and community-centered decision making are important to us.

**About the Youth Volunteer Program**:
Our youth volunteer program hosts individuals ages 13-16 from Dartmouth North who are looking to engage with their community in a meaningful way. This program will offer opportunities to build skills from meal prep to community farm work, to childcare, and more. Participants will be on site 4 days a week for 4 hours each day over the months of July and August. Access to nutritious food is central to the work we do; therefore, a light breakfast and full lunch will be provided for youth each day they are at the centre.

The North Grove’s Youth Volunteer Leadership program provides a unique environment for youth of diverse backgrounds to become more involved in the fabric of their community through volunteer service, community food programs, workshops, and having a lot of fun

This opportunity will provide youth with relevant job skills, references, and social skills, building their confidence and leadership skills to help them find employment in the future. The youth volunteer program highlights the importance of community gathering spaces and the connections forged within them. We want our youth volunteers to feel a strong sense of belonging at The North Grove and to take pride in the contributions they make to our programs.

**Position title**: Summer Youth Program Lead

**Contract Start date**: Tuesday, July 1st

**First Day On-Site**:Wednesday, July 2nd

**End date**: Friday, August 22nd

**Hours**: 30-35 hours/week

**Wage**: $20/hour + 4% vacation pay

**Reporting Structure**: The Youth Program Lead will report to the Volunteer Manager.

**Description**:
The Youth Program Lead will work closely with the Volunteer Manager and Youth Program Assistants to engage and supervise up to 20 youths, between the ages of 13-16. We’re looking for a skilled communicator and community-minded facilitator to lead the third year of the Youth Volunteer Leadership Program. You will excel in this position if you are a strong leader who is passionate about youth engagement, has a lot of energy, is creative, and likes to take initiative.

**Key Responsibilities**:
As the Youth Program Lead, you will:

- Work with the Volunteer Manager to schedule youth in various volunteer roles across the organization.
- Supervise, mentor, and build positive relationships with youth during the program.
- Co-create, organize, lead and facilitate creative activities and workshops for youth.
- Support the Volunteer Manager to schedule external facilitators for youth workshops.
- Support other program and workshop facilitators with delivering sessions for youth.
- Effectively and clearly communicate with program coordinators to schedule youth in various volunteer roles.
- Organize and plan breakfasts and lunches for youth participants.
- Conduct youth program evaluation throughout the summer.
- Plan and execute a variety of tasks related to the youth volunteer program.
- Support other activities at The North Grove as needed.

- 1+ years of recent experience in planning and delivering youth programs.
- Understanding and knowledge of challenges facing youth in Dartmouth North.
- Understanding of strength-based approaches to programming.
- Experience in group presentation, facilitation and team building.
- Ability to document and evaluate progress on goals and strategies.
- Adaptable, positive and flexible character with creative problem-solving abilities.
- Experience supervising people is considered an asset.
- Experience working in food programming and with food security initiatives is considered an asset
- Child abuse & criminal record check is required.
