First Nations Distribution and Logistics Supervisor

Position Summary: The Food Distribution and Logistics Manager will be responsible for coordinating the procurement, storage, transportation, and distribution of food supplies while promoting community engagement, sustainability, and healthy food choices. The Food Distribution and Logistics Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective distribution of food resources to First Nations communities. This position requires strong leadership skills, cultural sensitivity, and a deep understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by First Nations populations.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement and Inventory Management:
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, farmers, and food producers to ensure a consistent supply of quality food products.
- Conduct research and negotiate contracts with vendors to obtain the best prices and ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor inventory levels, anticipate demand, and implement strategies to prevent stock shortages or wastage.
- Assess capacity at distribution sites and communities
Food Distribution Coordination:
- Coordinate the transportation logistics for the timely delivery of food supplies to First Nations communities, considering geographical challenges and weather conditions.
- Collaborate with community leaders and stakeholders to determine food distribution schedules and locations.
- Develop and implement distribution plans that prioritize equitable access and address the unique cultural and dietary needs of each community.
Quality Control and Food Safety:
- Implement and maintain food safety protocols, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Regularly inspect and assess food storage facilities and vehicles to ensure they meet safety and health requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of food products received and address any issues promptly.
Community Engagement and Education:
- Foster positive relationships with First Nations communities and seek their input in shaping food distribution programs.
- Collaborate with community members to identify culturally appropriate and nutritious food options.
- Develop and deliver educational programs and workshops on nutrition, traditional food practices, and sustainable agriculture.
Budgeting and Reporting:
- Develop and manage the a budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources.
- Prepare regular reports on food distribution activities, including inventory levels, distribution metrics, and budget performance.
- Analyze data and provide recommendations for improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and community impact.
Qualifications:
- A deep understanding and respect for First Nations cultures, traditions, and food systems.
- Previous experience in food distribution, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to coordinate and motivate diverse teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with communities, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations, quality control standards, and best practices in inventory management.
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using computer software and systems for inventory tracking, reporting, and communication.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 24 months
**Salary**: $50,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

- Thunder Bay, ON P7E 1E7: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
